United Against Drug Abuse: NSCDC Kaduna, Advocacy Group Forge Strategic Alliance to Protect Youth and Build Safer Communities

By Suleman Musa, Kaduna Democracy NewslineJuly 22, 2026

In a renewed effort to combat the growing challenge of drug abuse and strengthen community safety, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kaduna State Command, has reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with credible organizations working to promote drug prevention, rehabilitation, and public awareness across the state.

The assurance was given when the Kaduna State Command received a delegation from the Advocacy Against Drug Abuse and Rehabilitation Awareness Initiative (AADRAI), Kaduna State Chapter, during a courtesy visit to the Command Headquarters in Kaduna.

The delegation, led by the State Coordinator, Dr. Jibril Lawal, was received as part of ongoing efforts to build strategic partnerships capable of addressing the alarming rise in substance abuse, particularly among young people, through coordinated advocacy, education, rehabilitation, and community engagement programmes.

Speaking during the visit, the State Secretary of AADRAI, Mr. Khalid Nasir, explained that the organization’s mission is to complement government efforts by promoting awareness on the dangers of drug abuse while supporting rehabilitation initiatives for victims of substance dependence.

According to him, the visit was aimed at formally introducing the organization to the NSCDC and exploring areas of collaboration that would strengthen public enlightenment campaigns and community-based interventions across Kaduna State.

He emphasized that tackling drug abuse requires a united front involving security agencies, civil society organizations, traditional institutions, educational bodies, religious leaders, and community stakeholders.

“Drug abuse has become a major social and security concern that threatens the future of our youths and the stability of our communities. It is only through strategic collaboration and sustained public awareness that we can effectively address this challenge,” he said.

Responding on behalf of the State Commandant, CC Panam Musa Buba, officials of the NSCDC Kaduna State Command expressed appreciation to the delegation for the visit and commended AADRAI for its commitment to creating a drug-free society.

The Command reaffirmed its readiness to partner with organizations whose objectives align with the statutory mandate of the NSCDC, which includes the protection of lives and property, safeguarding Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, conflict prevention, and promoting community safety through public enlightenment and stakeholder engagement.

The Command noted that preventing drug abuse is not only a public health responsibility but also a critical security issue, as substance abuse has been linked to rising cases of crime, youth violence, cultism, banditry, and other forms of social unrest in many communities.

Security experts have consistently identified preventive education, rehabilitation, and community participation as vital components in reducing drug-related crimes and fostering sustainable peace.

Both the NSCDC and AADRAI agreed that sustained collaboration would enhance advocacy campaigns in schools, communities, markets, and other public spaces while encouraging young people to embrace productive lifestyles and reject substance abuse.

The meeting concluded with both organizations expressing optimism that the proposed partnership would contribute significantly to the ongoing efforts to reduce drug abuse and other social vices in Kaduna State, while promoting safer communities and a healthier future for the state’s youth.

The courtesy visit reflects the growing recognition that the fight against drug abuse cannot be won by security agencies alone but requires the collective commitment of government institutions, civil society, families, and community leaders working together toward a common goal.
