The Urhobo Observers for Good Governance have issued a statement expressing their support for the Ijaw PDP Support Groups’ proposed protest scheduled for ,16 th July 2024 against Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration.
The statement, signed by Comr. Ogbe F. Odia, Chairman of Urhobo Observers for Good Governance, and Engr. Efe Mike Ogbaide, Secretary General, highlights concerns over alleged mismanagement and inadequate response to issues raised by the ljaw PDP support groups and ljaw Ex – Agitators
The Urhobo Observers for Good Governance in a Press release, criticized what they described as lack of transparency and responsiveness from key figures within the cabinent of Governor Oborevwori’s administration.
The Urhobo Observers for Good Governance raised alarm over a purported internal scheming among the governor’s aides, accusing them of forming a self-serving cabal rather than addressing critical governance challenges. They specifically called out Chief Sunday Onoriode, Director of Protocol, and Sen. Emmanuel Agwariavwodo, among others, for allegedly neglecting to implement resolutions reached in meetings with the Ijaw PDP Support groups.
Furthermore, the statement condemned the Delta Integrity Group, allegedly sponsored by elements within the Delta State government to frustrate their
effort. We have watched and studied some recent developments in the state polity, with respect to the modus operandi of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration, in terms of appointment, we regret to say that he has not done enough forr the ljaw support groups.
It is a known fact that the governor Sheriff Oborevweri one year in office is a very big plus
in terms of deliverance of the dividends of democracy to the good people of Delta State. We give God the glory for his goodness despite the little security challenges that almost set the State on fire.
We will, without fear or favour, tell ourselves some truth. It is very unfortunate and shameful that those around the Governor are not telling him the truth, they are forming their own cabal, some are already scheming to be the next Deputy Governor, after Sheriff Oborevwori’s eight (8) years. They are not helping the governor to solve problems, rather they are help in exposing the weakness of the government. :
” We the leaders of Urhobo Observers for Good Governance hereby issue a firm statement of our total support for the Ijaw PDP Support Groups’ protest against Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration, because they have plausible reason to stage the protest based on the dossiers of the various point they highlighted
in series of their demand notices which widely published in the social and mainstream media.”
The Urhobo groups added in their solidarity message supporting the ljaw PDP group saying:
” We have observed and reached out to some of the leaders in the ljaw group, and they told us how they have been making countless efforts to reach the Delta State Governor
since August 2023 till date, through Chief Sunday Onoriode, Director of Protocol (D.OP.), Sen. Emmanuel Edesiri Agwariavwodo, Senior Political Adviser, Chief Solomon Ighrakpata, Chairman, Delta State Board of Internal Revenue, but all our efforts to see the governor did not yield any favourable fruit.
The Urhobo Observers pointed out, saying:
“We wish to remark that all the personalities mentioned above are all illustrious sons of the Urhobo nation ,and key persons to the Governor, they are aware of the plight of these Ijaw groups but they have not done anything to address their concerns.”
The backlashing continued: ” Chief Sunday Onoriode, your actions are very bad, Work genuinely to first help the Governor Aide to succeed before thinking of your selfish agenda. Chief Sunday Onoriode, Director of Protocol, why have you not implemented the outcome of the meeting you held with Ijaw group at Wellington Hotel, Effurun? Sen. Emmanuel Agwariavwodo, you have on behalf of the governor met with this Ijaw groups on two separate occasions. Why have you not implemented the outcome of those meeting.,?’
The Urhobo Observers concluded in their Press release that all the people mentioned by the Ijaw groups in their protest notice should make concerted effort and go back to the drawing board to consult with His Excellency , the
Governor RT Hon Sheriff Oborevwori to broker a truce with the aggrieved Ijaw PDP Support groups in the overall interest of the government and good people of Delta State.
