Women protest rising insecurity in Kogi community

Aggrieved women in Oke Ere community in Yagba West Local government Area of Kogi State have staged a protest against incessant kidnapping of their community members by some unknown gunmen.

The women in a video on Wednesday chanted and described as “endless reign of terror”, what the gunmen has unleashed on their people.

Videos from the protest shows the women, mostly elderly, appeared in wrapped cloth marched through the community with mournful chants, lamenting the incessant attacks, kidnappings, and killings that had plagued their town for months.

Some of the protesters could be heard wailing as they sang sorrowful songs, pleading with relevant authorities to intervene for an immediate solution.

It was gathered that the latest development was the confession of a repentant kidnappers who revealed that he has been part of the kidnapping in the community.

“This kidnapper (name withheld) announced to the community his involvement with the kidnapping syndicate.
He explained that he was no longer interested in continue with the shaddy deals.

“He also mentioned one of the native as their members, and said that his former gang are now after his life. He asked for safety as he wanted to return to his former farming work.

“The accused native denied been involved and was left free. The women felt it’s taking too long for the traditional council to take action on both the self- repentant kidnapper and the accused native.”
