The Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Senator Sunday Steve Karimi, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the Federal Government’s award of the Kabba–Omuo–Ifaki Road and the Kabba–Mopa–Isanlu–Egbe–Omu-Aran–Ilorin Road, describing the projects as significant interventions that will improve transportation, boost economic activities and enhance connectivity across the region.
Senator Karimi gave the commendation during the 2026 Iyamoye Day Cultural Festival held yesterday at the Iyamoye Community Hall, Iyamoye, in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
He expressed optimism that contractors would soon mobilise to the project sites and commence construction work, assuring the people that the road projects would bring significant relief to commuters, farmers, traders and other road users across the benefiting communities.
The Senator also donated N5 million towards the successful hosting of the cultural festival, reaffirming his commitment to the preservation of cultural heritage, grassroots mobilisation and community development.
The annual cultural celebration attracted traditional rulers, community leaders, political stakeholders, sons and daughters of Iyamoye, as well as other distinguished guests who gathered to celebrate the rich cultural heritage, unity and identity of the community.
The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa, (rtd) who was physically present at the occasion, was honoured with a traditional title in recognition of his contributions and service. He also commended President Tinubu for his efforts towards rebuilding the Nigerian economy and addressing the country’s developmental challenges.
Speaking at the event, Senator Karimi appreciated the organising committee for its dedication to sustaining the cultural heritage of Iyamoye and promised continued support for the committee and its development-oriented programmes.
He called on the people of Iyamoye and the entire Kogi West Senatorial District to sustain their support for President Tinubu and his re-election bid in 2027, noting that the Federal Government’s road infrastructure interventions and other development initiatives demonstrated the importance of continuity in governance.
The Senator also highlighted some of his interventions across Kogi West, including the provision of scholarships to students, facilitation of solar-powered motorised boreholes across the 85 wards of the district, support for women’s cooperative societies and other empowerment initiatives.
He maintained that the Tinubu administration had demonstrated recognition of Kogi West through strategic political appointments, which, according to him, had given the district a stronger sense of inclusion in the affairs of the nation.
Senator Karimi further emphasised that cultural festivals should go beyond entertainment and merriment, noting that they provide important opportunities to promote unity, strengthen communal relationships, mobilise resources and attract development to communities.
He encouraged the people of Iyamoye, particularly their sons and daughters in the diaspora, to remain committed to the development of their ancestral home by supporting initiatives that would improve the welfare of the people.
He reiterated his commitment to partnering with traditional institutions, community development associations and other stakeholders to facilitate meaningful development across Iyamoye and other communities in Kogi West Senatorial District.
The N5 million donation and his assurances of continued support further highlighted Senator Karimi’s engagement with grassroots communities and his commitment to initiatives that promote cultural preservation, infrastructure development, economic empowerment and sustainable community growth.
