The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has congratulated one of his predecessors in office, Professor Emeritus Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede, on his turbaning as Kuliyan Sokoto by the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, on Sunday, November 1, 2026.
Professor Egbewole also congratulated the Sultan on his 20th anniversary on the revered throne of the Sokoto Caliphate, appreciating him for finding Professor Emeritus Oloyede, who served as Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin between 2007 and 2012, worthy of appointment to such a highly esteemed traditional position.
The Vice Chancellor, in a press statement issued by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, described the conferment of the prestigious traditional title on Professor Emeritus Oloyede, who is also the immediate past Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), as “a well-deserved honour for a rare breed of public servant, a detribalised Nigerian, a bridge-builder and an incorruptible statesman.”
Professor Egbewole particularly rejoiced with Professor Emeritus Oloyede, who is also the Secretary-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), noting that the new traditional title recognises his outstanding contributions to national educational development, service excellence, community service and humanitarian activities.
He further described the erudite Professor of Islamic Jurisprudence as “a veritable symbol of renewed hope for national rebirth.”
While wishing Professor Emeritus Oloyede a long and fruitful reign in his new traditional assignment, Professor Egbewole, who is also the Secretary-General of the Association of West Africa Universities (AWAU), observed that the conferment of the title was an indication that Nigeria still had much to benefit from the experience, expertise and versatility of the former JAMB boss.
Congratulating the Sultan on his 20th coronation anniversary, Professor Egbewole also celebrated the revered monarch, whose reign, he noted, has symbolised societal peace, religious harmony and national development.
He wished the Sarkin Musulmi and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) long life, continued sound health and a more fulfilling reign on the throne of the Sokoto Caliphate.
