In governance, leaders are often remembered not only for the policies they initiate but also for their ability to sustain reforms long enough for citizens to fully experience their benefits. Across nations and generations, durable development has consistently been achieved where there is continuity of vision, discipline in execution, and stability in policy direction over time. It is this principle that appears to underpin Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori’s declaration that the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 is his “number one project.”

Far from being a routine political statement, the governor’s position reflects a deeper conviction that meaningful economic transformation requires time, consistency, and institutional stability. In his view, reforms, no matter how well designed, must be sustained to deliver their intended outcomes, particularly in complex economies such as Nigeria’s.
As Governor Oborevwori stated at the Arise Tv News Prime Time Interview, “President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 is my number one project because the policies of this administration are already yielding benefits for states and the nation.”
Since assuming office in May 2023, President Tinubu has embarked on wide-ranging economic reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s fiscal framework, improving revenue generation, and placing the economy on a more sustainable long-term footing. These policy measures, though structural in nature, have begun to reshape the fiscal landscape, contributing to improved federal revenues and increased allocations to states, thereby expanding the capacity of subnational governments to deliver infrastructure and essential public services.
At the core of these reforms is a deliberate attempt to correct long-standing structural imbalances and reposition the economy for more resilient and inclusive growth. While the transition is ongoing, the emerging fiscal space is already enabling governments at all levels to plan and execute development projects with greater confidence and improved financial stability.

Under Governor Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda covering; Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security, the state has recorded steady and measurable progress across critical sectors. Infrastructure development has expanded significantly, healthcare delivery systems are being strengthened, educational facilities are undergoing renewal, and urban regeneration projects are reshaping key cities and communities. Across the three senatorial districts, ongoing projects are improving connectivity, stimulating local enterprise, and enhancing the overall quality of life of citizens.
A defining feature of the Oborevwori administration has been its commitment to steady, inclusive, and result-oriented governance. Rather than rely on grand political rhetoric, the administration has focused on disciplined project execution, stakeholder engagement, and prudent financial management. This approach has helped strengthen public confidence while ensuring that development efforts remain consistent, measurable, and aligned with the needs of the people.
Across the state, the results of this approach are increasingly visible and tangible. New road networks are opening up previously underserved communities, healthcare facilities are receiving sustained upgrades, schools are being modernised to meet current standards, and urban centres are undergoing structured transformation designed to support long-term growth. These interventions go beyond physical infrastructure; they represent deliberate investments in human capital development, economic productivity, and future prosperity.
The governor has consistently acknowledged the role of improved fiscal capacity in enabling these outcomes, particularly the enhanced revenue flow stemming from federal reforms. According to him, “Today, contractors are paid promptly, projects are progressing according to schedule, and Delta State has greater capacity to meet its developmental obligations. These gains are linked to the economic reforms introduced by the Federal Government.”
In practical terms, Delta State offers a working example of how federal economic reforms and subnational execution can align to produce measurable development outcomes. The synergy between improved fiscal capacity and disciplined governance has created an enabling environment for accelerated infrastructure delivery, improved service provision, and expanded economic opportunities for citizens across the state.
For Governor Oborevwori, the argument for supporting President Tinubu’s re-election is therefore anchored on the need to sustain this developmental momentum. In his assessment, governance achieves its highest impact not through frequent policy disruptions but through continuity that allows reforms to mature and deliver their full value.
