37 inmates regain their freedom in Kano

By Bala Salihu Dawakin kudu. On Oct 22, 2024

The Chief Judge of Kano State, Justice Dije Abdu-Aboki, recently ordered the release of 37 inmates from the Goron Dutse and Medium Security Custodial Centre.

The move is aimed at reducing overcrowding in custodial centers and was facilitated due to the inmates’ prolonged detention without trial and health concerns.

According to a statement by SC Musbahu Kofar-Nasarawa, Public Relations Officer for the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Justice Abdu-Aboki urged the freed inmates to reform their behavior and avoid actions that could lead them back into crime.

As part of her support, she provided each inmate with N10,000 for transportation.

The Controller of Corrections, Kano State Command, Mr. Ado Inuwa, praised the Chief Judge’s initiative, particularly in ensuring the release of inmates who had suffered from extended detentions and health issues.
