65th Independence Anniversary: Obidient Movement Calls for National Reawakening

As Nigeria marks 65 years of independence, the Obidient Movement has described the occasion as a solemn reminder of the country’s urgent need for renewal and restructuring.

In a statement issued by its North Central Spokesperson, Emmanuel Idakwo, the movement noted that instead of celebrating progress, Nigerians are compelled to reflect on decades of lost opportunities and leadership failure.

“Sixty-five years after independence, Nigeria is not where it should be. The cracks in our foundation are wide open, and leadership failure remains our greatest problem. The consequences of this failure are evident everywhere—economically, politically, and in terms of national security,” Idakwo said.

He lamented that under the current administration of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the country has continued to retrogress, stressing that comparisons with Nigeria’s state at independence reveal little or no meaningful progress.

“The time has come to stop the killings and start the healing, to stop the slide and begin the climb, to stop the division and start building unity,” he urged.

The Obidient Movement reaffirmed its call to move Nigeria from “consumption to production,” insisting that the current model of looting and sharing national resources is unsustainable. Instead, it advocated a system anchored on productivity, innovation, and accountability.

“This 65th Independence anniversary must be a turning point—not in words, but in action,” Idakwo declared.

He emphasized that the failure of successive governments has affected all Nigerians, regardless of class, region, or religion, and warned against passing these burdens to future generations.

“It is time for every Nigerian to take ownership of our nation’s future. Silence is no longer an option. Apathy is no longer excusable,” he stressed.

The statement concluded with a rallying call:“Let us organize, not agonize. Let us make election rigging difficult, if not impossible. Let us build a Nigeria where integrity is rewarded, leaders truly serve, and the people hold the power. A New Nigeria is possible—but it must begin now, with courage, clarity, and conviction.”
