A TRIBUTE TO A MATRIARCH: PRINCESS ATINUKE OMOBONIKE OSOBU (NÉE OYEKANMI) (1948 – 2026)

Death, they say, is a debt we must all pay, but when it comes to claim a life so richly lived, so deeply rooted in love, dignity, and grace, its arrival still leaves us searching for words adequate to the loss.
Today, we gather to honour the memory of *Princess Atinuke Omobonike Osobu (née Oyekanmi)* beloved wife of the late *Prince Olayiwola Osobu* of the Ogboni Ajigiteri Ruling Family of Ijebu-Jesa — a woman who, for seventy-eight years, walked this earth with quiet strength, unwavering faith, and a heart big enough to hold an entire family together.

To speak of Princess Atinuke is to speak of a life anchored in service — to her husband, to her children, to herextended family, and to all who were fortunate enough to call her mother, grandmother, aunty, sister, cousin, in-law, or friend. She did not merely occupy these roles; she embodied them with a devotion that left an indelible mark on everyone she touched.
It is with profound pride and filial gratitude that we celebrate her legacy through her son, *Deputy Managing Director Olakunle A. Osobu* whose distinguished career spanning over three decades in the oil and gas industry — rising to the esteemed position of Deputy Managing Director of the Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) — stands as a living testament to the values his late mother instilled in him: discipline, integrity, excellence, and an unshakable commitment to purpose. In every boardroom he has entered and every milestone he has achieved, the fingerprints of a mother’s sacrifice and prayers are unmistakably present.
Princess Atinuke’s legacy lives on not only through DMD Olakunle A. Osobu, but through all her children, grandchildren and the wider family she nurtured with such tenderness. To her children, she was a compass. To her grandchildren, she was a treasury of wisdom and warmth. To her extended family and the Ogboni Ajigiteri Ruling Family of Ijebu-Jesa at large, she was a pillar of unity and honour.
We acknowledge, with deep respect, all her children, grandchildren, and other family members present today — those who bear her legacy forward in their own lives, careers, and families, and who have gathered from near and far to celebrate a life so well spent.
As the scripture rightly declares over her life: *”Well done, good and faithful servant…”* (Matthew 25:23). She has run her race, kept the faith, and now rests from her labours.
Sleep well, Princess Atinuke Omobonike Osobu. Your legacy will forever be spoken of in the halls of family, industry, and community. You have not left us empty-handed — you have left us a blueprint of grace.
Adieu, our dear Iya. Adieu, Princess.
