AATU Chancellor Restates Commitment in Making the Varsity,Harvard University of USA

The Chancellor of AbdulRasaq Abubakar Toyin University, Alhaji AbdulRasaq Abubakar Toyin, has reaffirmed his commitment to building the institution into a globally competitive university comparable to Harvard University and other world-class institutions.

Speaking during the maiden Founder’s Day and Public Lecture in honour of the former President of the Court of Appeal, and the University Board of Trustees chairman, retired Justice Issa Ayo Salami held at the university’s campus in Ganmo, Kwara State, the Chancellor said he would not relent in his vision of positioning AATU as a centre of academic excellence.

Reflecting on his humble beginnings, Alhaji AbdulRasaq encouraged students to remain focused, disciplined, and prayerful, noting that success is achievable through determination and commitment and assured that the institution would continue to produce graduates capable of contributing meaningfully to Nigeria’s socio-economic and political development.

He also commended key stakeholders, including the Pro-Chancellor, Prof. AbdulRasheed Na’Allah, for their roles in the successful establishment and growth of the university.

Delivering the keynote lecture, a legal scholar Prof Abiodun Amuda-Kannike of the National Institute of Legislative and Democratic Studies Abuja called for urgent reforms to Nigeria’s Electoral Act 2022, arguing that while innovations like BVAS and IReV have improved transparency, contradictions in the legal framework particularly the prioritisation of manually collated results undermine their effectiveness. He advocated full legal recognition for electronically transmitted results and clearer regulatory standards.

In his welcome address, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof AbdulRauf Ambali, described the event as a milestone and reiterated the university’s commitment to producing not only knowledgeable but responsible graduates.

The colourful event attracted dignitaries from across the country and featured cultural displays, academic presentations, poetry renditions, and sporting competitions, with winners receiving trophies and cash prizes.
