.. “Remo Federal Constituency on Edge: Anticipation Builds Ahead of Pivotal Bye-Election”….The Political Landscape of Remo Federal Constituency: A Bye-Election to Remember

By Solanke Ayomideji Taiwo

As the sun rises on August 16, 2025, the buzz of anticipation fills the air in Remo Federal Constituency, nestled in the heart of Ogun State, Nigeria. Local political fervor is palpable as residents prepare for a pivotal bye-election to fill the seat left vacant by the late Hon. Adewunmi Onanuga. With the stakes high and emotions more intense than ever, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is mobilizing its resources and supporters, fueled by confidence and a firm belief in their ability to claim victory.

At the forefront of the PDP’s campaign is Hon. Bolarinwa Oluwole, affectionately known as ABO, whose past achievements and grassroots efforts are resonating with the constituents. The state party’s chairman, Hon. Abayomi Tella, passionately rallied members during the campaign council’s inauguration, highlighting the party’s strategic alliance with President Bola Tinubu as a unifying force. “President Tinubu is the ‘father of the nation’ from the South-West,” Tella asserted, emphasizing the party’s intent to ensure a fair electoral process and reiterate loyalty to the president ahead of his re-election bid in 2027.

The confidence emanating from the PDP is partly rooted in their stronghold narrative; the party previously won 34 out of 35 wards in the last election cycle—a feat that bolsters their assurance as they face off against rivals from the All Progressives Congress (APC). “This constituency is our stronghold, as evident in the outcome of the 2023 election,” Tella said. His words reflect the sentiments of many party faithful, who are enthusiastic about repeating past successes and dispelling fears of intimidation at the polls.

National Vice Chairman Hon. Kamorudeen Ajisafe’s vision for a temporarily relocated Southwest Zonal Secretariat speaks volumes about the PDP’s commitment to meticulous campaigning. His presence signals not only support for Oluwole but also a promise of unified action against any coercive tactics that political adversaries might employ. “No amount of political intimidation or forced defections can distract Nigerians from the reality of APC’s abysmal performance,” Ajisafe remarked, framing the narrative as one of accountability versus deception.

The party’s gubernatorial candidate from the 2023 elections, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, echoed sentiments of determination, urging constituents to exercise their rights at the ballot box. “We need this bye-election to challenge bad governance and restore the trust of the electorate,” he said, his voice resonating with an urgency that captures the electoral zeitgeist.

Oluwole himself is embracing the role of a proactive candidate. He has called on Governor Dapo Abiodun to facilitate a free and fair election devoid of electoral malpractices. His appeal symbolizes a broader desire among locals for a peaceful political process, signaling that while they are prepared to fight for their preferred candidate, they also crave a semblance of civility in electoral competition.

As August 16 looms closer, the spirit of hope courses through the veins of the PDP and its supporters. Bellies full of aspirations, there exists a unifying understanding among many constituents: the need for change, growth, and accountability. For the residents of Remo Federal Constituency, this bye-election represents not just a contest for a seat but an opportunity to redefine governance in their locality.

As campaigning intensifies, one cannot overlook the complexities of Nigerian politics. The intricate dynamics of loyalty, regional affiliations, and collective memory play a crucial role in shaping electoral outcomes. If history serves as a guide, the bye-election represents a pivotal moment for the PDP and the future trajectory of governance in Ogun State.

With polling day on the horizon, Remo Federal Constituency stands on the brink of potentially transformative change. The aspirations of many hinge on their decisions in the coming days, where votes will not only dictate the outcome of a single constituency but shape the political narrative of Ogun State for years to come.
