Acting FUOYE VC salutes workers’ resilience, says strength of varsity lies in its workers

In celebration of International Workers’ Day, the Acting Vice-Chancellor Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), Ekiti State, Nigeria, Professor Olubunmi Samuel Shittu, has paid glowing tribute to workers in the university, describing them as “the backbone of the university,” while announcing a series of reform initiatives aimed at improving labour rights in the university.

Speaking in a statement released by the university Public Relations Officer, Mr. Foluso Ogunmodede to mark May Day, the Acting Vice-Chancellor lauded the resilience, strength, and unwavering dedication of workers in the university, saying without which the university may be alive to its responsibilities.

Besides, he acknowledged vital roles being played by workers and all categories of unions in driving development within the university.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor, however, emphasized the importance of recognising and supporting the dignity of workers of the university, saying that “the strength of any university is built on the shoulders of its workers.

He also commended the workforce for their contributions to the success of the university, saying various ongoing initiatives would be sustained.

Professor Shittu said his unwavering commitment and determination to the welfare of workers in the university would remain unshaken as he would consistently demonstrate it through action.

He concluded his May Day message with a call for unity, dignity, and continued advocacy for the rights of workers, reinforcing the theme that “in unity, there is strength; in solidarity, there is hope.”
