Warri, Delta State — Top government functionaries and political stakeholders in Delta State have lauded Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his bold infrastructural strides, following an inspection tour of the ongoing reconstruction of the Warri Stadium, which is being upgraded to meet world-class standards.
Leading the delegation, Ambassador Dr. Toyin Agbolayah JP, Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Development, expressed profound satisfaction with the scale and quality of work at the project site. He described the transformation as unprecedented, noting that the stadium, once a shadow of its past glory, is fast emerging as a modern sporting edifice capable of hosting both national and international events.
“I am overwhelmed by the remarkable progress recorded here,” Agbolayah stated. “Having lived in Warri all my life, I can confidently say that what we are witnessing today is the very best. This project is not just a stadium upgrade; it is a symbol of development, unity, and renewed hope for the people.”
He emphasized that the project aligns with the administration’s broader developmental blueprint, adding that the upgraded facility would significantly boost sports development, commerce, and social life in Warri and beyond. According to him, the stadium stands as a testament to the Governor’s commitment to delivering people-oriented projects under the MORE Agenda.
Also speaking during the inspection, Hon. Dr. Hope George JP, Senior Special Assistant on Political Matters, described the project as “marvelous and visionary.” He recalled initial skepticism that greeted the Governor’s promise but noted that the visible progress has now silenced critics.
“Today, the Governor has proven his capacity and sincerity,” George said. “From what we have seen, this stadium will be rank among the top sporting facilities in Nigeria. The introduction of modern indoor facilities further underscores its world-class status. This is a legacy project that will reposition Warri on the global sporting map.”
Hon Dr Hope George JP added that the host community remains committed to sustaining peace and providing the enabling environment necessary for the successful completion and operation of the facility. He noted that the development would open doors for international tournaments, thereby enhancing economic opportunities for residents.
In his remarks, Hon. Francis Obule, also a Senior Special Assistant on Political Matters, described the reconstruction as massive and comprehensive. He commended the Governor for prioritizing infrastructural renewal and urged Deltans to continue supporting the administration.
Similarly, Hon. Gbinije, who was part of the inspection team, noted that the Warri Stadium project ranks among the most impactful developments in recent times, stressing that it reflects a deliberate effort to reposition Delta State as a hub for sports and youth engagement.
The inspection tour further highlighted other strategic projects being executed by the state government, including key road networks aimed at improving connectivity between riverine and upland communities—initiatives stakeholders say are critical to inclusive development.
As the Warri Stadium project nears completion, expectations are high that it will not only revive the city’s sporting culture but also serve as a catalyst for economic growth, tourism, and youth empowerment across Delta State.
