Alleged Negligence: NAKOSS Demands Probe into Covenant University Student’s Death

The National Association of Kogi State Students has expressed grief over the death of a 500-level student of Covenant University, Toluwase Jesutunmise Emmanuel, who reportedly collapsed during a football match.

FocusNGR reports that Emmanuel, a student of Building Technology, died after experiencing breathing complications while participating in a campus football game.

In a statement issued on Friday, Comrade Sunday Adeola Simon, National President of NAKOSS, described the incident as tragic and heartbreaking, noting that the deceased was an indigene of Kogi.

Simon said the association commiserated with the family of the deceased, the Kogi State student community, and the entire university community over the painful loss.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of our dear brother, Toluwase Jesutunmise Emmanuel, whose sudden demise has left us devastated.

“He was a promising young man whose life was cut short in circumstances that require urgent and transparent clarification,” he said.

The NAKOSS president called on the National Association of Nigerian Students and other relevant stakeholders to immediately institute an independent investigation into the incident.

He stressed the need to ascertain the true circumstances surrounding the student’s death, especially in light of conflicting accounts from the university authorities and eyewitnesses.

Simon urged the management of Covenant University to cooperate fully with any probe and ensure that all necessary medical records and information were made available.

According to him, transparency and accountability are critical in maintaining trust and preventing future occurrences.

Simon reaffirmed NAKOSS’ commitment to pursuing justice and ensuring that the truth surrounding the incident is uncovered.
