The milestone event, held at the Rotunda Hall, Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja, also featured the public presentation of his new book, “TIME AND SPACE IN DIPLOMACY”, a reflection of his over four decades of experience in Nigeria’s foreign service.

The hall was filled with top politicians and members of the National Assembly, members of the diplomatic corps, retired and serving ambassadors, government officials, and associates who came to honour the celebrant for his contributions to Nigeria’s foreign policy.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Lewu thanked God for life, health, and the opportunity to serve Nigeria. He described diplomacy as “the art of timing, patience and cultural intelligence.”

Unveiling his book, he said “TIME AND SPACE IN DIPLOMACY” was written to document lessons from his career and to guide young diplomats.

“Diplomacy is not just about treaties and negotiations. It is about understanding people, knowing when to act, and when to listen. This book captures those experiences,” he stated.

Former colleagues and dignitaries described Ambassador Lewu as a disciplined officer, a mentor, and a bridge-builder who represented Nigeria with distinction across several countries.

One of the speakers, a former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said: “Ambassador Lewu served this country with honour. His wisdom and calm approach to complex international issues earned Nigeria respect abroad.”

Family members also paid glowing tributes, describing him as a loving father, grandfather and community leader.

The book, “Time and Space in Diplomacy”, was formally presented to the public by special guests. Copies were auctioned, with proceeds to support education and youth mentorship programs.

The ceremony continued with the cutting of the 80th birthday cake, cultural performances, and a dinner reception.

Ambassador Lewu joined the Nigerian Foreign Service in the 1970s and served in various capacities, including as Nigeria’s Ambassador to several nations. He is widely regarded as one of the voices of experience in Nigeria’s diplomatic history.

Guests described the event as befitting for a man who has dedicated his life to nation-building and international relations.

Dignitaries who attended the event includes former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (GCFR); the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu; Minister of State Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, Cardinal John Olorunfemi Onaiyekan; senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps and other eminent guests.
