AN OPEN COMPASSIONATE APPEAL TO HIS EXCELLENCY, ALHAJI AHMED USMAN ODODO, THE EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR OF KOGI STATE
Your Excellency,
I write this open letter to you, not from the desk of my official capacity as a local government official, but from the depths of my heart as a son of Ikowa opa in Kabba/Bunu and a devoted patriot.
I write because my conscience will not allow me to remain silent for any political reasons while the people who form the bedrock of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), continue to endure untold hardship.
Your Excellency, history remembers that in late 2019, during the heat of the second-term campaign of your predecessor, His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, the Ikowa Opa Link Road in Kabba district and Kabba-Olle Road in Bunu district were officially flagged off for immediate reconstruction during a memorable evening ceremony. It was a moment of immense hope for our people.
However, years have passed, and as I write to you today, the sound of construction machinery remains a distant echo. The roads remain in a deplorable state, abandoned, neglected, and deteriorating.
Your Excellency, these are State roads, but the feet that trek them, the cars and Okada that ride on these roads every day belong to the grassroots. These are the farmers who feed our markets and the traders who drive our local economy. More importantly, these are the very people we run to at every election cycle, pleading for the mandates that put us in office.
Your Excellency, as we speak, the daily hardship caused by these roads is eroding the confidence of the mandate-owners.
*They are asking: “If we were promised this in 2019, why is it still a death trap in 2026?”*
Your Excellency, we are eternally grateful for your visionary leadership in making sure the Kogi State University, Kabba project is being prioritized and continue smoothly, and your swift intervention in the Omigbo erosion control projects. These were our “trophies” in the last election; they were the proof we showed the people that our party and leaders cares.
However, Your Excellency, as we approach the next election cycles which include your reelection, the question remains: What is our next strategy?
We cannot keep selling the same old successes. To convince our people for their continued support and to ensure we deliver a landslide victory for our party again, we must show them new progress.
The reconstruction of the Ikowa Opa Link Road and Kabba-Olle Road are the most potent political and humanitarian statement you can make in Kabba Bunu today.
I humby appeal to your Excellency’s sense of justice and compassion. Let us fix these roads now, as a matter of urgency, before the political campaign season reaches its peak.
Let us turn that 2019 “flag-off” into a 2026 “commissioning.”
If we fix these roads, we will not need to beg for votes; the roads themselves will campaign for us.
Let us give the people of Kabba Bunu LGA a reason to sing the praises of our party once again.
I trust in your proven record of being a “Governor for all,” and I am confident that you will hear this cry from the heart of the grassroots.
Yours Patriotically and in the Service of our People,
CHIEF (HON.) AIYENALE FRED JIMOH, B.Sc (Political Science), PgDip (Journalism and Public Relations), M.Sc (Legislative Studies/Parliamentary Administration)
