AN OPEN LETTER TO HIS EXCELLENCY, ENGR. ABBA KABIR YUSUF, EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR OF KANO STATE, ON THE URGENT NEED TO RECONSTRUCT THE LAHADIN MAKOLE ROAD IN DAWAKIN KUDU LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA.

His Excellency,
Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf,
Executive Governor of Kano State,
Government House, Kano.
Your Excellency,
I write this open letter with the utmost respect, sincerity, and a deep sense of responsibility as a citizen of Kano State, a proud member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the leader of the NEW APC AMBASSADORS 44 LOCAL GOVERNMENTS KANO STATE.
Although I belong to an opposition political party, I firmly believe that the welfare of our people should always come before political differences. It is in this spirit that I respectfully appeal to Your Excellency regarding the deplorable condition of the Lahadin Makole Road in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area.
Your Excellency, the people of Dawakin Kudu have always demonstrated their commitment to democracy and good governance. Many of them are prepared to continue supporting your administration because they believe in the promise of a better Kano State. However, there is growing disappointment over the continued neglect of the Lahadin Makole Road.
For many years, successive administrations—from the tenure of Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to Malam Ibrahim Shekarau and Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje—repeatedly announced that the road linking Dawakiji to Dawakin Kudu had been included in the annual budget. Unfortunately, despite these assurances, the road remained abandoned. This has left many residents feeling that promises were made but never fulfilled.
Your Excellency, the Lahadin Makole Road has become more than a damaged road; it has become a danger to human life. It has turned into a death trap, a security risk, and a major obstacle to economic and social development. Criminal elements reportedly take advantage of its poor condition, making it difficult for security agencies to respond quickly or pursue offenders effectively.
The humanitarian consequences are heartbreaking. Pregnant women in labour often face life-threatening delays while trying to reach hospitals. Some are forced to give birth on motorcycles or along the roadside because of the terrible state of the road. Sadly, lives have been lost under circumstances that could have been prevented with a safe and motorable road.
Farmers also suffer immensely, struggling to transport their agricultural produce to markets. Businesses are affected, transportation costs have increased, and the local economy continues to weaken because of this single neglected road.
Your Excellency, we acknowledge and appreciate the developmental projects your administration has executed in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area. We commend your government for the rehabilitation of the road from Dawakin Kudu Junction to Dawaki, even though many residents have expressed concerns about its quality and durability. We also sincerely appreciate the construction of the road linking Dorawar Na’Aba along the Maiduguri Road through Sabon Garin Yankatsare to Mariri near Limawa. These projects clearly demonstrate your commitment to infrastructure development, and we are grateful.
However, despite these achievements, the suffering of the communities along the Lahadin Makole Road remains unresolved. Communities such as Dakatsale, Wasko, Kantsi, Kode, Busaye, Unguwar Duniya, Tsakuwa, Santolo, Madawa, and Nasarawar Doya continue to endure daily hardship because of the condition of this road.
Your Excellency, I respectfully invite you to personally visit and travel on this road. A journey of less than ten kilometres can take nearly one hour because of its deplorable condition. Seeing the situation firsthand will undoubtedly provide a clearer understanding of the enormous challenges faced by thousands of your citizens every day.
We also respectfully wish to remind Your Excellency that during your visit to Dawakin Kudu, you assured the people that this road would be reconstructed. Inspired by that promise, many residents gave their support to your administration with great hope. Today, many of them are becoming discouraged because they have yet to witness the fulfilment of that commitment.
It is important to note that this appeal is not intended to criticise your administration unfairly. Rather, it is a sincere request from citizens who desire justice, fairness, and equal development. We believe that addressing this long-standing challenge will further strengthen public confidence in your government.
Your Excellency, we have consistently heard from government representatives that the Lahadin Makole Road was included in the 2025 and 2026 budgets. Those announcements gave our people renewed hope. We therefore respectfully appeal that the implementation of this important project should commence without further delay.
The people of Dawakin Kudu consider the reconstruction of this road their highest priority. We respectfully submit that, if necessary and in accordance with the law and established financial procedures, government should prioritise available resources towards completing this project because it directly affects security, healthcare, education, agriculture, commerce, and the overall well-being of thousands of citizens.
This project is more than road construction—it is an investment in human lives, public safety, economic growth, and social justice.
Your Excellency, history remembers leaders not only for the offices they held but for the lasting impact they made in the lives of their people. We believe you have the opportunity to succeed where previous administrations fell short by delivering this long-awaited project.
We therefore humbly appeal to you to honour your promise and direct the immediate commencement of the reconstruction of the Lahadin Makole Road. Such a decision will restore hope, save lives, improve security, strengthen the local economy, and stand as a lasting legacy of your administration.
As we conclude, we sincerely thank Your Excellency for your attention to this heartfelt appeal. We remain hopeful that your government will respond positively and take decisive action on behalf of the people of Dawakin Kudu.
May Almighty Allah continue to grant you wisdom, strength, good health, and success in the service of Kano State and Nigeria.
Yours respectfully,
Hon. Bala Salihu Dawakin Kudu
