The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has formally welcomed the Governor of Kano State, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, into the All Progressives Congress (APC), pledging to work closely with him and other stakeholders to advance the prosperity and development of the state.
Governor Yusuf officially rejoined the APC on Monday, January 26, 2026, at a well-attended gathering held at the Kano Government House. The event followed his resignation from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) on Friday, January 23, marking a significant political realignment in the state’s political landscape.
Speaking through a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Malam Ismail Mudashir, Senator Barau described the governor’s return to the APC as a positive development that would strengthen unity and collective resolve in addressing Kano’s pressing challenges.
According to the Deputy Senate President, politics, for him, has always been about service and impact, not personal gain. He recalled that his entry into public service over three decades ago was motivated by a desire to contribute meaningfully to the wellbeing of the people of Kano State and Nigeria at large.
“I welcome His Excellency, the Governor of our beloved state, Kano, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, to our great party, the APC, the largest political party in Africa,” Senator Barau said.
He assured the governor of his readiness to collaborate across all levels of leadership to promote good governance, economic growth, and social development in the state.
“I am in politics to serve our people. I will work with the governor and all critical stakeholders to confront the challenges facing Kano State and to unlock its vast human and economic potential for the benefit of our citizens,” he added.
Senator Barau also used the occasion to reaffirm his loyalty to the leadership of the APC at the national level, particularly President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
“I also want to reassure the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, of my unalloyed commitment to the ideals of the Renewed Hope Agenda, as we work together to take our country to the next level, where governance truly works for all,” he said.
Political observers view Governor Yusuf’s return to the APC as a strategic move with far-reaching implications for Kano politics, given the state’s status as one of the most populous and politically influential in the country. The development is expected to reshape alliances ahead of future political engagements, while potentially fostering greater cooperation between the state and the federal government.
With the renewed partnership between key political actors, supporters of the APC in Kano expressed optimism that the alignment would translate into improved governance, enhanced security, and accelerated socio-economic development for the state.
