Press Statement: APC New Media Campaign Council Urges INEC to Delist Asue Ighodalo from Ballot Papers
The APC New Media Campaign Council calls on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to disqualify Mr. Asue Ighodalo, the PDP candidate for the upcoming Edo State Governorship election scheduled for September 21st, due to serious allegations that undermine the integrity of the electoral process.
Mr. Ighodalo faces court accusations of forging his voter’s card, a grave offense that questions his eligibility and trustworthiness as a candidate. Moreover, a Federal High Court has invalidated the delegates that nominated Mr. Ighodalo as the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate, further casting a shadow over his legitimacy.
The implications of these allegations are not just legal but also moral. INEC is entrusted with safeguarding the sanctity of our elections, and allowing a candidate embroiled in such serious controversies to remain on the ballot jeopardizes the credibility of the electoral process. This situation demands urgent and decisive action to prevent the erosion of public trust in our democratic institutions.
We advise INEC to take immediate steps to disqualify Mr. Asue Ighodalo from the ballot papers. Failing to address these allegations adequately would not only stain the integrity of the election but also set a dangerous precedent that could embolden future electoral malpractice.
The electorate deserves an election that is free from doubts and controversies. INEC’s prompt action in this matter will reaffirm its commitment to conducting a transparent, fair, and credible election.
Signed,
Osigwe Omo-Ikirodah
Director, APC New Media Campaign Council
