The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in the October 17, 2026, Kogi State Local Government Council elections, winning all 21 chairmanship seats and 239 councillorship positions across the state, according to the announced results.
The Chairman of the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC), Hon. Mamman Nda Eri, confirmed the successful candidates in a statewide broadcast on Sunday, October 18, after the Commission received and verified the official election returns from the 21 local government areas and 239 electoral wards.
Eri said the results were based on the official returns submitted by duly authorised Returning Officers following the conclusion of voting, counting and collation at designated centres.
He stated that the Commission had confirmed the successful candidates as duly returned by the respective Returning Officers in accordance with applicable electoral laws and guidelines.
The KOSIEC chairman explained that the election was conducted to elect chairmen and councillors who would administer the state’s 21 local government councils and represent residents across the 239 electoral wards.
He said the Commission remained committed to ensuring that the will of the electorate, freely expressed through the ballot, was respected, adding that its responsibility was to provide a fair, transparent and credible electoral process.
According to him, detailed results containing the names of successful candidates, their political parties, local government areas and electoral wards would be made available through the Commission’s official communication channels.
Congratulating the successful candidates, Eri reminded them that victory at the polls was a call to service and urged them to govern with humility, fairness and accountability.
He charged the newly elected local government chairmen and councillors to prioritise the welfare of the people and demonstrate genuine commitment to grassroots development.
The Commission’s chairman also commended candidates who did not win, urging them to respect legitimate electoral outcomes and pursue any grievances through lawful means.
Eri further called on political leaders, party supporters and residents to maintain peace and unity, stressing that elections should be viewed as democratic contests rather than battles between enemies.
“Political parties may differ in ideology and approach, but our collective responsibility remains the peace, unity and development of Kogi State,” he said.
He expressed appreciation to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for providing institutional support to the Commission and commended security agencies, political parties, candidates, election observers, civil society organisations, traditional and religious leaders, the media and other stakeholders for their contributions to the electoral process.
He also praised KOSIEC officials and ad hoc personnel for their dedication during the exercise and thanked the people of Kogi State for participating in the election.
Eri reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to protecting the integrity of the electoral process and strengthening grassroots democracy across the state.
The outcome, as reported, gives the APC control of all 21 local government chairmanship positions and all 239 councillorship seats, placing the party in a position to lead the administration and legislative activities of the state’s local government councils.
The election results mark a significant development in Kogi State’s local government political landscape as the successful candidates prepare to assume their respective responsibilities.
