Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo Speaks on Kwam 1 and ValueJet Drama
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has addressed the recent altercation between Fuji musician Kwam 1 and ValueJet staff at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
According to Keyamo, the incident, which occurred on August 5, 2025, was a case of “temporary loss of sanity and control on both sides” that could have led to serious fatalities ¹.
Keyamo has directed the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to place Kwam 1 on a no-fly list pending further investigation, in addition to the temporary suspension of the ValueJet pilots’ licenses.
The minister emphasized that both parties breached standard safety protocols required by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
PpThe incident involved Kwam 1 attempting to board a ValueJet flight to Lagos with a flask containing an unidentified liquid substance, suspected to be alcohol.
Despite repeated warnings from Aviation Security personnel and the flight captain, Kwam 1 refused to comply, leading to a confrontation. He allegedly spilled the substance on a security officer and obstructed the aircraft’s departure by standing in front of it.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) is conducting a thorough investigation into the incident, emphasizing its commitment to aviation safety and security.
All parties found culpable will be held accountable according to the law.
Meanwhile, Kwam 1 has denied allegations of misconduct, claiming he was the victim and not the aggressor.
He stated that the substance in question was plain drinking water and that ValueJet management apologized and offered to fly him to Lagos on a private jet, an offer he declined.
