“Be Wary of Fake Information Alleged To Be from Office of Kogi Assembly Speaker,” CPS Warns Public

The Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Yabagi Mohammed, has warned members of the unsuspecting public, especially the press, to be wary of fake, unsubstantiated information being put out by unknown persons in the name of the office and that of Rt Hon Aliyu Umar Yusuf.

In a press statement, the CPS has enjoined the public to verify any information they see or read about the person of Rt Honourable Yusuf by checking on his verified social media handles on the various platforms to be sure of its veracity.

The statement noted that the speaker as a public office holder commands large following from among the people of the state because of his general acceptability, humility, pragmatism, and love, but enjoined his followers to understand the difference between him as a mere politician and the office he currently occupies.

The CPS therefore appealed to the public to desist from making social media posts in the name of the speaker without assessing the implications, noting that though they are important to the push of information to reach wider audience, they should not do any harm to the communications of the office of the speaker with the public through unprofessional, unverified posts without knowledge of their implications.

In his words; “Our attention has been called to the overzealous behaviours of some of the supporters of my boss, the speaker, by posting information on social media without recourse to the implications to the smooth running of the office.

“As the Chief Press Secretary to the speaker, a trained mass communicator, public relations professional, journalist of many years, our supporters should please weigh the implications of some of the information they post on social media from the office before making it public so as not to make the job any Herculean.

“Do not ignorantly undermine us in trying to assist us, especially when it comes to posts with far reaching consequences.

“The speaker thanks each and everyone of you for the show of love and the enthusiasm being shown to him, but I urge members of the public, especially my colleague journalists, to please check on my social media handles or reach me on my cell phone at any time to verify any information they read from any quarter about the activities and utterances of the speaker on any matter.

“This is sending assurances of the speaker’s and my office’s warmest regards and look forward to partnering with all of you for greatness of Kogi State and the office of the speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly in particular.”
