OKUN DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT’S DISCLAIMER OF VISIT TO MURI AJAKA; A PUERILE MISREPRESENTATION OF REALITY
OMO OKUN LIBERTY ASSOCIATION WORLDWIDE
Our attention has been drawn to a widely published disclaimer by Barrister Femi Mokikan in reaction to the visit by the leadership of Omo Okun Liberty Association Worldwide to the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
The unwarranted outburst from the ODA President ought not to have been dignified with any response but in view of the half truths and outright falsehood contained in the writeup, it is imperative to expose the deliberate attempt to misrepresent facts and malign certain individuals in the process.
Barrister Femi Mokikan is obviously living in the past but to outrightly claim ODA South West never existed is taking falsehood to an unprecedented level.
For the avoidance of doubt, the visit to Hon. Muri Ajaka is under the auspices of Omo Okun Liberty Association Worldwide. This is an organization duly registered under the laws of the country. If the above stated is the reality, the disclaimer was needless and nothing but clout chasing.
The visit of Omo Okun Liberty Association Worldwide to Alhaji Muri Ajaka was sequel to an earlier visit to Admiral Usman Jibrin (Rtd) which is purely a fact finding exercise. At no point in the course of the interactions was endorsement mentioned and any contrary claim is hogwash.
It is strange that ODA under the leadership of Barrister Femi Mokikan after meeting with Alhaji Yahaya Bello in 2019 openly endorsed the second term bid of the Governor purportedly on the strength of an understanding to have an Okun person take over from him as Governor. It is strange that ODA has kept mute since Alhaji Yahaya Bello unveiled Alhaji Usman Ododo as his successor.
Equally disturbing is the ominous silence from the ODA leadership on the inability of Okunland to have a consensus candidate among the three candidates of Okun extraction.
Omo Okun Liberty Association Worldwide has shown pragmatism in the reality of the disunity and discordant approach of some individuals to the quest for an Okun person to become Governor.
Why has there been no visible attempt to untie the knotty issue of a consensus candidate till this time?
While some people will prefer nocturnal visits to candidates from the other Senatorial zones, we visited in the glare of day to make the best out of a very bad situation.
Those visited will confirm the deliberations held and we owe no one apology for our approach because it is in the best interest of our people and done with the most patriotic of intentions.
Nobody should blame their inadequacies and inability to live up to expectations on Omo Okun Liberty Association Worldwide. What is expected is a more proactive ODA leadership that will understand what is at stake for us as a people in terms of the quest for an Okun person to be Governor.
For now, we are restrained from putting out in the public domain, evidence of gross misrepresentation as seen in the disclaimer signed by Barrister Femi Mokikan.
Omo Okun Liberty Association Worldwide will continue to contribute its quota to the social, economic and political upliftment of our people and no amount of mudslinging will deter us from doing what is right for our people.
We hope those who took positions on this issue will be appropriately guided.
Signed
Femi Peter
Secretary
