In a major breakthrough against drug trafficking in Northern Nigeria, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has uncovered a sophisticated underground drug storage network in Rimin Kebe area of Kano State, leading to the arrest of 19 suspected traffickers and the seizure of large quantities of illicit substances.

The dramatic operation, code-named “Operation Sharar Mafaka,” was carried out by NDLEA’s special tactical unit in Kano after weeks of intelligence gathering and covert surveillance on suspected criminal activities within the community.

According to the agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, the suspects had constructed secret underground tunnels and hidden chambers beneath residential structures, which were allegedly being used as warehouses and distribution centers for dangerous narcotics. The discovery shocked investigators, who described the hideout as one of the most carefully concealed drug operations uncovered in recent times.

Officials revealed that the underground compartments were intentionally designed to avoid detection from security agencies and even nearby residents. The tunnels reportedly contained various hard drugs packaged for distribution across different parts of the state and beyond.

During the coordinated raid, NDLEA operatives stormed the location, dismantled the hidden structures, confiscated the illegal substances, and took 19 suspects into custody for further investigation and prosecution.
The agency praised the bravery and professionalism of its Kano command officers, emphasizing that the operation demonstrates NDLEA’s growing determination to dismantle organized drug networks no matter how sophisticated their methods may be.
Security analysts say the discovery highlights a disturbing trend in which criminal groups are now adopting more advanced and secretive tactics, including underground storage facilities, to evade law enforcement.

Community leaders are therefore being encouraged to work closely with security agencies by reporting suspicious construction activities, unusual movements, or hidden gatherings within neighborhoods.
