KOGI STATE POLICE PRESS RELEASE

CP DANTAWAYE HOLDS STRATEGIC CONFERENCE WITH SENIOR POLICE OFFICERS, REINFORCES DISCIPLINE, PROFESSIONALISM, AND RESPONSIBLE POLICING IN KOGI STATE

The Kogi State Commissioner of Police, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, psc, today, June 11, 2025, convened a Command-wide strategic conference with senior officers focused on discipline, professionalism, operational efficiency, accountability, and innovation in policing.

The CP charged all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders to uphold the values of discipline, professionalism, precision in patrol formations, civility in public interactions, and intelligence-led operations. He challenged them to shift from reactive policing to preventive and community-friendly strategies.

He cautioned officers against indiscriminate arrests, prolonged detentions for minor offences, and the misuse of police powers, especially at checkpoints and public spaces. Reiterating the Inspector General of Police’s directives against indiscriminate arrests and human rights abuses, he warned that any division found violating these rules would be sanctioned.

The CP called for strict enforcement of discipline at all command levels, stressing that discipline is the bedrock of the job. He emphasized the importance of tactical coordination, proper conduct during operations, and the urgent need to restore public confidence through intelligence-driven policing and ethical law enforcement.

The CP further charged all Area Commanders and DPOs to take personal responsibility for the performance of their formations, pledging continuous unscheduled visits to divisions to enforce compliance with ethical standards.

As part of the day’s agenda, the Command welcomed Dr. Joe Wealth, a renewable energy expert from AFP Consult, who delivered a compelling lecture on “The Role of Solar Power in Strengthening Security Infrastructure.” Dr. Wealth emphasized the significance of integrating solar energy into police operations, particularly through solar-powered street lighting and office energy systems to ensure round-the-clock visibility and uninterrupted operations, highlighting the direct link between illumination and crime reduction.

The CP commended AFP Consult and expressed strong support for integrating solar-powered street lights and backup systems into police stations, especially in remote and high-risk areas.

The conference ended with a renewed commitment to uphold the values of discipline and professionalism in all police engagements and service delivery.
