CUSTECH Pro-Chancellor, Emeritus Professor Olu Obafemi Celebrates 75th Birthday in Grand Style

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, Emeritus Professor Olu Obafemi, on 4th April, 2025, marked his 75th birthday in a grand celebration held at the University of Ilorin’s Dam Site.

The event which attracted a galaxy of dignitaries from all walks of life, was a testament to the celebrant’s immense contributions to academia, governance, and national development.

The birthday ceremony was filled with heartfelt tributes and encomium from friends, associates, students, and family members including the former Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko who was a Special Guest of Honour.

In his tribute, Dr.Mimiko thanked God for the impactful life Professor Obafemi has lived, noting his significant influence in the academia and public service.

Similarly, the former Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Professor Musbau A. Akanji, extolled the virtues of the renowned Professor of English and Dramatic literature, wishing him more years of good health and fulfillment.

Highlight of the celebration was the presentation of a brand new Prado jeep vehicle to the celebrant by the Vice Chancellor,Confluence University of Science and Technology Engr.Prof.Abdulrahman Asipita Salawu on behalf of the Governor and Chief Servant of Kogi State,Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo.

According to Prof.Asipita Salawu,the official vehicle presentation,done along with some Council members,is a way of appreciation of Obafemi’s leadership,diligence and dedication to the growth of education in Kogi State.
Responding,Prof.Obafemi expressed his profound appreciation to Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo for his generous spirit,and prayed for a productive and purposeful tenure that will go down as the best in Kogi State.
He expressed gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the event saying “my joy knows no bound seeing the overwhelming love and support shown to me today”.

The event was enlivened with music and dance drama by the more than forty years old Ajan troupe of University of Ilorin,a brainchild of Prof.Olu Obafemi.

The celebration not only honored Professor Obafemi’s 75 years of life but also underscored his enduring legacy as a scholar, administrator, and mentor to many.
