DAVID ONUCHE: A LEADER WHO REMEMBERS THE GRASSROOTS, EMPOWERS THE PEOPLE AND GIVES HOPE A NEW MEANING
The people of Ofu Local Government Area witnessed a remarkable display of grassroots engagement and community empowerment as Hon. Onuche Excel David returned home to Ochadamu for an empowerment programme that brought together hundreds of youths, elderly women, widows, political appointees and other members of the community.
The event, which also marked his homecoming, was characterised by the distribution of cash support to beneficiaries, reaffirming his commitment to connecting with the people and supporting members of his community.
For Hon. Excel Onuche, the initiative goes beyond politics. It reflects a personal conviction that leadership should remain connected to the people, particularly at the grassroots where the realities of everyday life are most deeply felt.
When the people are remembered, hope is restored. When the grassroots are empowered, communities grow.
The gathering attracted notable political leaders and stakeholders, including the State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Engr Aliyu Momoh, the Chairman of the Special Advisers Forum, Hon. Bode Adeyemi, the Local Government Chairman, as well as several political appointees and other dignitaries.
Speaking at the occasion, Hon. Excel Onuche explained that the empowerment programme was motivated by the love and concern he has for his people and was not organised because he is presently seeking any political position.
He further stated that although he has no current plan to contest for office, if the people call upon him to serve, he will be willing to answer that call.
That message resonated strongly with the gathering, as the event reflected the enduring relationship between a community and one of its sons who continues to maintain contact with the grassroots.
The occasion also featured significant gestures of support towards political activities, including the presentation of a vehicle to the incumbent councillor and two Sienna buses to support the incoming House of Assembly members in their campaign activities.
Beyond the material donations, the Ochadamu gathering provided another opportunity for the people of Ofu to come together, reconnect and celebrate community, leadership and shared aspirations.
