Dawakin Kudu Bye-Election: INEC, Security Agencies Strengthen Collaboration for Peaceful Poll.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Kano State office, has intensified consultations with security agencies ahead of the forthcoming Kano State House of Assembly bye-election for the Dawakin Kudu State Constituency, with a renewed commitment to ensuring a peaceful, credible and orderly electoral process.
The meeting, held at the INEC headquarters in Kano, brought together senior representatives of the various security agencies as part of efforts to strengthen inter-agency coordination and develop effective security arrangements before, during and after the election.

The Dawakin Kudu State Constituency bye-election is scheduled for September 19, 2026, according to the electoral timetable published by INEC.
Speaking after the meeting, the National Commissioner/Resident Electoral Commissioner overseeing Kano State, Ambassador Abdu A. Zango, outlined measures being put in place by the electoral body to ensure that eligible voters in the constituency are able to exercise their franchise without fear or intimidation.
According to the commission, preparations include the deployment of about 2,000 election officials to polling units across Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area.
The security meeting is considered particularly important because effective coordination among the police and other security agencies is critical to protecting voters, election personnel, electoral materials and collation centres, as well as preventing electoral offences and other forms of disruption.
The Kano State Police Command, represented at the meeting by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, also assured INEC of the readiness of the command to provide adequate security throughout the electoral process.
The police representative said the security arrangement would cover the period leading up to the election, Election Day itself and the post-election period, with emphasis on preventing violence, intimidation, vote-buying, disruption of polling and other offences capable of undermining the credibility of the exercise.
The approach follows previous electoral exercises in Kano where security agencies deployed personnel to polling units, collation centres and other critical locations to maintain law and order. During the June 2026 Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency bye-election, for example, the Kano Police Command announced movement restrictions and deployed security personnel to strategic electoral locations as part of its security plan.
INEC’s latest preparations also come against the background of the commission’s broader responsibility to conduct elections that are transparent, peaceful and credible. The commission has officially listed the Kano Dawakin Kudu State Constituency bye-election for September 19, 2026 among the forthcoming bye-elections.
The election is expected to attract significant attention among political parties, candidates and residents of Dawakin Kudu, particularly because the outcome will determine who represents the constituency in the Kano State House of Assembly.
Political stakeholders and voters are therefore expected to play their part by conducting themselves peacefully, respecting electoral laws and allowing election officials to carry out their responsibilities without interference. The security agencies, on their part, are expected to maintain neutrality and professionalism while protecting voters and electoral personnel throughout the exercise.
The INEC-security agencies meeting therefore represents an important step towards ensuring that the Dawakin Kudu State Constituency election is conducted in an atmosphere where voters can freely choose their preferred candidate and where the outcome reflects the genuine will of the electorate.
With the election date fast approaching, attention is now shifting to the final phase of preparations, including voter mobilisation, deployment of personnel and materials, security arrangements and intensified sensitisation of political parties and the electorate.
