Delta Scout Council Elects New Leaders, Charts New Course

By Wilson Macaulay

The Scout Association of Nigeria (TSAN), Delta State Scout Council, has charted a new course for the association with the election of a new set of leaders to pilot its affairs for the next three years.

The election, which marked a significant step towards repositioning the association, is expected to usher in renewed leadership, greater organisational effectiveness, and a stronger commitment to the ideals and objectives of Scouting in Delta State.

The 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held at the Oshimili South Local Government Council Hall, Asaba, drawing Scout delegates from local associations across 17 local government areas of the state, as well as stakeholders in the association.

Delivering his keynote address, the Commissioner for Youth Development, Delta State, Hon. Brave Enodeh, assured the association of the ministry’s commitment and support, charging members not to see themselves as merely local Scouts but to brace up to meet international standards in line with global trends.

The Commissioner, who was represented by the Director of Youth Mobilisation and Leadership, Ministry of Youth Development, Mrs. Peace Okonye, said the Scouts must embrace the opportunities presented by the digital age and position themselves for greater relevance.

Enodeh said: “We are in a digital age, and I will not expect the Scout body to remain a localised association.
So, whatever it takes for you to prepare yourself and be qualified to rise to the level of your international colleagues, please do it.

“As the AGM is ongoing, I want you to be aware that you are the driving force of the Delta State Scout Association. If you are not here, and if this AGM is not taking place, I don’t think the Scouts will progress.”

Speaking to The Daily Independent Newspaper correspondent shortly after the election, the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, Delta State Scout Council, Dr. Hope George, said the successful conduct of the AGM was a testament to the committee’s commitment and resilience, noting that the association had been unable to hold its AGM for several years due to internal challenges.

“What happened today is what we have been long awaiting. It is the Annual General Meeting of the Scout Association of Nigeria, Delta State Council. It was last held in 2017. It is an AGM that gives birth to new leadership. You heard me introduce myself as the Caretaker Committee Chairman. Those elected at this AGM will serve for three years. That is what the constitution stipulates. But because of issues here and there, we have not been able to hold the AGM.

“We have also nominated and elected officers, including the State Commissioner, Honorary Secretary, Honorary Treasurer, and Assistant Secretary. We went further to engage persons for what we call the Management Committee, to manage the Scouts as an advisory body that will work with the executive. These are very senior citizens of the state.

Earlier, in a goodwill message delivered on behalf of the State Chairman of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Delta State, Dcns. Precious Young, who was represented by Pastor Phrederick Okoka, Young commended members of the Scout Association for their unwavering commitment to promoting discipline, leadership, service, and responsible citizenship among young people.

Those elected were Olorogun Jaro Egbo – Chairman, Management Committee, Delta State Scout Council Members includes; Hon. Justice A.O Akpovi, Chief Lizzy Charzor, Hon. Felix Eremedafe, Chief Vincent Okudolor, Dcn. Young Precious, Surveyor Dr. Alexander Eboka, Chief Uba Awaza and Ogaga Aghogho.

Also elected are Scouter Christopher Aniemeke as Honorary Secretary

Scouter Bright Araino as Honorary Treasurer

Scouter Patrick Ashiedu as Assistant Secretary. At the end Hon. Landlord-Lawrence Agbagoro was recommended to the Chief Commissioner of the Scout Association of Nigeria for appointment as the State Commissioner of Delta State Scout Council
