In a significant show of strength and unity, the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, on [insert date], attended the Unity Rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), held at the historic Old Parade Ground, Area 10, Abuja.
The highlight of the event was the formal defection of the Executive Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, and his large contingent of supporters from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC. The defection was officially received by the National Chairman of the APC, His Excellency Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, OFR, who welcomed the new members with open arms.
Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, Senator Barau described the occasion as a “landmark political moment” for the FCT and a significant boost to the APC’s growing dominance nationwide. He praised the National Chairman’s efforts and the entire National Working Committee (NWC) for their unwavering commitment to party expansion, stating that the APC train had “successfully landed in the FCT” after a successful nationwide mobilization tour.
“This is not just the defection of one man,” Senator Barau said. “This is the defection of a structure—an entire council—and it will change the political narrative in the FCT.”
He expressed confidence in the APC’s electoral prospects in the FCT, saying, “By the grace of God, we will win by a landslide any time an election is conducted. We will make the FCT proud, the APC proud, our President happy, and Nigerians happy.”
Senator Barau also used the occasion to call for unity and unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He acknowledged that Nigeria was facing significant challenges before the President took office—ranging from infrastructure and energy issues to security lapses—but affirmed that the President came with a clear vision and strong will to change the status quo.
“Mr. President inherited a country grappling with numerous issues,” he said. “And shortly after, global conflicts like the Russia-Ukraine war and the Israel-Palestine crisis disrupted economies worldwide. Nigeria, like many others, has not been immune. Prices of goods and services have gone up globally, and we are feeling the impact here as well.”
Despite these challenges, Senator Barau reassured Nigerians that President Tinubu has remained focused and tireless in his efforts to redirect the country toward prosperity. He urged Nigerians to be patient and trust the process.
“Rome was not built in a day. A nation cannot be rebuilt overnight. But the foundation is being laid, and the pillars of a new Nigeria are rising. We must stay united, support the President, and trust in his commitment to make Nigeria the land of El Dorado.”
Senator Barau concluded by reaffirming his and the National Assembly’s commitment to the APC’s success and the President’s vision, urging all Nigerians to stand together as one united front.
“We are part of the team,” he declared. “We know the efforts the President is making. He will not fail. Let’s continue to support him and work together for a prosperous Nigeria.”
