DG BPP TASKS PROCUREMENT PRACTITIONERS ON PROFESSIONALISM.

…. Says Ethical Practice Will Enhance Good Governance .

The Director General of the Bureau of Public Procurement of the federal republic of Nigeria, Adebowale Adetokunbo, Phd has urged procurement Practitioners in both Public and private organizations to always be guided by the ethics and ethos of the Profession for the betterment of Nigeria.

The Director General disclosed this at a one day Procurement Capacity Building Workshop for Procurement Practitioners and Stakeholders, Organized by the Association of Public Procurement Practitioners of Nigeria, (APPON) federal Capital Territory (FCT)Abuja Chapter, with the theme, “Public Procurement Practice, Methods, and it Regulatory Frameworks”, held at the Cyprian Ekwesi Center for art and culture area 10 Garki Abuja, Thursday November 28,2024.

Adebowale maintained that Pubic procurement Practitioners could play key role in ensuring transparency and accountability in the Country, particularly, in the area of budget implementation and performance if professionalism takes precedence in the discharge of their responsibilities, he said.

Continuing, the Director General further explained that the yearnings aspiration of Nigerians for good governance and infrastructural developments was achievable if Public Procurement Practitioners tenaciously hold on to the ethics of the Profession.

Also Speaking, Dr. Bulus Mayaki Director, Procurement rural electrification agency, implored Public Procurement Practitioners to always ensure that there conduct is always in tandem and harmony with the the public procurement Act PPA 2007, to avoid misconduct.

Dr. Mayaki called for legislative enactment that would give adequate protection to public procurement Practitioners to enable them Carryout their functions without fears.

Earlier, the National President of the Association who was the Chief host of the ceremony Dr.Emem Kaniko Commended the Director General of the Bureau of Public Procurement, Adebowale Adetokunbo for honouring the Association’s invitation inspite of his tight schedule, pointing out that the DG has demostrated leadership and sincere concern for the progress of APPON and Nigeria in general.

He further charged participants at the workshop to meticulously and religiously pay attention to the papers that would be delivered to enable them improve their capacity, knowledge and understanding for the task ahead.

While Commending the Abuja Chapter of the Association of Procurement Practitioners of Nigeria, (APPON) for the strength and unity they have demostrated by holding such a high powered capacity building workshop, the national president also urged participants to ensure that their operations is always in accordance to the Public Procurement act 2007.

Also Speaking, the fct Chapter Chairman of the association, Makar Dominic Orduen said the ensence of the capacity building workshop for members was aimed at educating, training and most importantly, to update Practitioners with current information on procurement,more so that there were areas in the public procurement Act that Practitioners still found difficult to understand,so the procurement capacity building workshop offers solutions by giving clarifications to some of those act, he stressed.

Reacting to question by journalists on what informed the award that was bestowed on some Members of the association, the fct Chapter Chairman noted that the award was a compliment from the federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja Chapter to some few individuals who has contributed immensely to the growth and development of the association.

while lamenting harsh and arbitrary treatment of some procurement officers by the power that be, he appealed to federal government to support Public Procurement Practitioners by enacting a legislation that would give them the desired protection to enable them discharge their duties effectively.
