DR RALPH AROKOYO: A MAN WITH A GOLDEN HEART PIONEERING BUSINESSES IN THE KABBA COMMUNITY

By Temiloluwa Samuel

In Kabba, the headquarters of Kogi West, the Okun nation, and Kabba-Bunu Local Government, stories of development often point to one name: Dr. Ralph Arokoyo.

To the youths seeking jobs, he is an employer. To market women and farmers, he is a dependable partner. To community leaders, he is a giver. And to many in Kogi West, he is simply “a man with a golden heart.”

At a time when capital flight from small towns is common, Dr. Arokoyo has chosen a different path — investing at home and pioneering businesses that are reshaping the economic landscape of Kabba metropolis.

Dr. Arokoyo’s philosophy is simple: development must begin from where you come from.

Rather than relocate his investments to Abuja or Lagos, he brought them back to Kabba. Today, his business footprint cuts across the wholesale and retail of cement — including Dangote, BUA, and Mangal brands — as well as oil and gas and haulage, with hundreds of trucks moving goods and services from one point to another across Nigeria.

Each venture is deliberate — designed not just to make profit, but to solve local problems and create livelihoods.

What sets Dr. Arokoyo apart is how he runs his businesses.

Employees describe him as accessible. Beneficiaries of his empowerment programs call him a mentor. Community members point to his quiet philanthropy — scholarships for indigent students, support for health outreaches, and donations during festivals and emergencies.

“He doesn’t wait to be asked,” says a community youth leader. “If there is a need in Kabba, Dr. Ralph will find a way to respond. That is why we call him a man with a golden heart.”

For him, business is a vehicle for service. Every new company means more jobs for Kabba sons and daughters, more skills transferred, and more money circulating within the local economy.

Kabba metropolis is growing fast. With Kogi State University, Kabba and the Ahmadu Bello University College of Agriculture, Kabba attracting thousands, the demand for goods, services, and jobs has increased.

Dr. Arokoyo is positioning to meet that demand. Insiders say he is expanding, with the goal of making Kabba a hub where people don’t have to travel to Lokoja for quality services.

Traditional rulers and stakeholders say this kind of homegrown investment is exactly what the community needs.

In a country where many talk about “giving back,” Dr. Ralph Arokoyo is doing it — quietly, consistently, and with impact.

His story is proof that one man, with vision and compassion, can spark change in his community.

As Kabba metropolis continues to grow, the businesses and goodwill pioneered by Dr. Arokoyo will remain a reference point. Not just for what he built, but for how he built it — with a golden heart.

In the words of an elder in Bunu land: _“We need more golden hearts like Ralph’s. Hearts that build, that employ, and that remember home.”
