DSP flags off distribution of FG rice palliatives to northwest in Kano.
The Committee for the distribution of the Federal Government’s rice palliative for the northwest geopolitical zone officially flagged off the distribution in Kano State on Sunday.
Senator Barau I. Jibrin, Chairman of the committee stated that the initiative is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda aimed at alleviating hunger across Nigeria.
The Democracy Newsline reports that over 19 trucks were allocated to Kano, with the 25kg rice palliatives set to benefit over 23,644 people, regardless of political or religious affiliation.
He explained that the rice palliatives are to be given to the needy across the communities in Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, Jigawa and Zamfara States.
The Deputy Senate President (DSP) said that the Federal Government Committee for the rice distribution is composed of representatives from other political parties across the states to ensure fairness, equity and accountability.
“The President has done well by giving out palliatives. But the problem was that the palliative support were not fairly distributed that is why the President changed the strategy of distribution.
Senator Barau urged committee members to ensure a fair and just distribution process at the local government wards, prioritizing the truly needy.

He also highlighted the global economic challenges, including the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which have contributed to the rise in food, petrol, and electricity prices, further burdening the poor.
Barau commended President Tinubu for his compassion and efforts to mitigate these economic hardships.
Senator Abubakar Kyari, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, praised the program and revealed that more initiatives are underway.
He mentioned the sale of 50kg bags of rice at a subsidized price of N40,000, which he recently inaugurated in Abuja.
He added that Kano has received special attention with 70 trucks of rice allocated, including an additional 60 trucks, bringing a total of 42,000 bags of 50kg of rice for sale at the subsidized price.

Dr. Mariya Mahmud Bunkure, Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), emphasized that the program aims to ease the suffering caused by the current economic challenges.
Beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to President Tinubu, calling the initiative a “poor-directed policy” that directly benefits the masses.
The ceremony was attended by several notable figures, including Senator Alhassan Ado Doguwa, Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Abdullahi Tijjani Muhammad Gwarzo, and presidential aides such as Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, among others.
