Senator Barau I. Jibrin, Chairman of the committee stated that the initiative is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda aimed at alleviating hunger across Nigeria.

The Democracy Newsline reports that over 19 trucks were allocated to Kano, with the 25kg rice palliatives set to benefit over 23,644 people, regardless of political or religious affiliation.

He explained that the rice palliatives are to be given to the needy across the communities in Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, Jigawa and Zamfara States.

The Deputy Senate President (DSP) said that the Federal Government Committee for the rice distribution is composed of representatives from other political parties across the states to ensure fairness, equity and accountability.

“The President has done well by giving out palliatives. But the problem was that the palliative support were not fairly distributed that is why the President changed the strategy of distribution.

Senator Barau urged committee members to ensure a fair and just distribution process at the local government wards, prioritizing the truly needy.
