Ebonyi RTREAN Chairman Dismisses Purported Court’s Sack
By Ben Nworie
The chairman of the Ebonyi State chapter of the Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria (RTREAN),Mr James Igwe has described as fictitious, unfounded and misleading, the purported judgement from a National Industrial Court of Nigeria sitting in Abakaliki, claiming that he has been sacked from the position.
In his reaction, Igwe noted that he remained the chairman of the association, stressing that his purported sack was a mere figment of imagination from disgruntled elements.
According to him: “I have not seen that judgement. I don’t know where they are bringing such kangaroo story from. Court is not a hidden process. If there’s any judgement against me, by now, I could have been served by the Court. So, I see it as way of tarnishing my image”.
“When I read the news that I was sacked, I don’t know whether I was sacked in the spirit, because right now, I am sitting in my office and discharging my duties at RTREAN Chairman Ebonyi state”.
“However, I know that like Bible says that where there’s 12, there must be a Judas. I was duly elected and most of them trying to play smart were also elected. We contested various positions and were elected on the same day”.
“They are trying to topple my government but I don’t know how they intend to do it because constitutionally, our tenure is 5 years. My tenure will end in 2027. And after which, it is left for me to recontest”.
In a suit No NICN/Abk/08/2024, two applicants, Mr John Agbo and Chief Simeon Nweze through their counsel, D.I. Okwor approached the court to determine whether by the virtue of the judgement of the High Court of Ebonyi State delivered by Justice B.A.N Ogbu on May 2, 2023, the 3rd Respondent, James Igwe was still qualified to hold office as the chairman of RTREAN, Ebonyi State chapter of the South East zone.
The embattled Chairman explained that he has been working hard to bring the association to limelight in the state, and further added “before I came in, RTREAN has nothing to offer in Ebonyi state”.
