Abuja – The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed reports alleging that the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, is under investigation over alleged visa racketeering, describing such claims as false and misleading.

In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale stated unequivocally that the anti-graft agency has no investigation or case involving the Immigration Comptroller General.
According to him, while the commission is currently prosecuting some Nigeria Immigration Service officers over alleged visa fraud at the Federal High Court, the ongoing investigations do not involve the NIS boss.

“The commission wishes to state unequivocally that it has no case with the Comptroller General of Immigration. There are subsisting cases of alleged visa fraud against some immigration officers at the Federal High Court, while further investigations are ongoing with the possibility that more officers could be arraigned for alleged fraudulent practices in the near future. However, the Immigration CG is not remotely connected to these investigations,” Oyewale said.

He urged media organisations and journalists to verify information with the commission before publication to avoid spreading misinformation capable of misleading the public.
The clarification comes amid growing public interest in the EFCC’s crackdown on corruption and fraudulent practices within public institutions. Observers say the commission’s statement is intended to distinguish ongoing prosecutions involving individual officers from the leadership of the Nigeria Immigration Service, while reaffirming its commitment to ensuring accountability through due process.

The EFCC reiterated that investigations into alleged visa fraud will continue and assured Nigerians that anyone found culpable, regardless of status, would face the full weight of the law.
