Establishment of Kogi State University, Kabba, Governor Bello on the right path
Education, they say, is the fundamental key to success in life.
“To change your fate, all you need is education and hard effort. Your education determines your self-worth. The more you learn, the more opportunities become available to you. It’s crucial to continue to learn no matter what profession you’re in, but only if it helps you add value to others and advance your career goals”.
Governor Yahaya Bello, in realization of the importance of education as the fundamental key to success in any chosen career, decided to select the educational sector as one of the thematic areas of focus since he assumed duty as the Executive Governor of Kogi State on 27th January, 2016.
Also having known that security is very important to the socio economic wellbeing of the people, decided to use education as one of the tools to fight crimes and criminalities because people with no education are likely to indulge in crimes that will portrait the state in bad light hence militating against the socio-economic growth of the people of the state and it will debar the state of attaining its full potential.
However, establishing the third state owned University in the headquarters of Kogi West Senatorial District, Kabba is seen as deliberate steps to first balance the imbalance of siting the state owned institutions in the state also bring to realization the agelong desires of the people of Okun nation and finally to equitably distribute the resources of the state hence promoting equity, fairness and justice in the State.
Though his critics agree with him on this laudable decision of the twenty first century and creating an enabling environment for the upcoming generations to have access to quality education without leaving the state in search of tertiary education which has hitherto been the situation before he came on board.
Establishing two world class universities within a space of three years in a state like Kogi is commendable also removing the clog from the wheel of progress of the students due to incessant strikes deleting Kogi State from the ASUU saga has also helped to make the students finish their academic works in record time.
Therefore as a visionary leader, with the knowledge that education makes dreams come true, Governor Yahaya Bello chose education as the way to go.
It is also good to note that Governor Yahaya Bello has chosen his successor who have been part of the administration from the beginning, pairing him with an outstanding teacher and a comrade per excellence, believing that when elected, Alh. Ododo Ahmed Usman (OAU) and Comrade Joel Salifu Oyibo will consolidate on the monumental achievements of the new direction administration led by Governor Yahaya Bello in the area of education.
