FALAKE, ABEJIDE, SALMAN IDRIS HOLD STRATEGIC ABUJA MEETING AS OKUN POLITICAL FUTURE TAKES CENTRE STAGE

ABUJA — Political leaders and stakeholders from Kogi West under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have held a strategic meeting in Abuja, with discussions focusing on regional development and the political future of the Okun people ahead of the 2027 general election.

The meeting, hosted on Friday by Hon. James Abiodun Faleke, member representing Ikeja Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and a close ally of President Bola Tinubu, was attended by RT. Hon. Leke Joseph Abejide, representing Yagba East/West/Mopamuro Federal Constituency, and Hon. (Arc.) Salman Idris, representing Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency, both at the House of Representatives.

Other key stakeholders from the Okun axis also participated in the closed-door engagement.

Although details of the meeting were not made public, sources told our reporter that deliberations centred on strategies to advance the socio-economic development of the region, strengthen political unity, and explore opportunities for greater representation.

The gathering comes amid renewed conversations over the political aspirations of the Okun people, who have continued to demand a stronger role in the leadership structure of Kogi State.

Political observers described the meeting as a significant development, noting that the presence of federal lawmakers from the region signals growing coordination among influential stakeholders ahead of the 2027 political season.

Analysts believe the current influence of Okun leaders at the national level provides a strategic platform for the region to push for its long-standing political interests, cohesion of the leaders from the Western Senatorial District in attracting more federal presence for the region.

The meeting is expected to fuel further consultations among stakeholders as political realignments gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections
