FARMER GOVERNOR UMARU BAGO CALLS FOR INVESTMENT ON RESEARCH TO END INSECURITY AND OTHER VICES IN NORTHERN NIGERIA

Niger State Governor, farmer Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has called on his counterparts in the Northern Nigeria to invest in research and studies to end insecurity and other challenges confronting the region.

The farmer Governor made the call when he received on courtesy call, the National, and State officials of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) at the Government House, Minna.

He explained that experts are needed in solving security issues and social vices, adding that the ACF should continue to harp on the need for all critical stakeholders in the region to prioritise Northern agenda.

The farmer Governor expressed concern on why the region is yet to address the issue of Farmers/Herders clashes which has lingered for many years.

He then announced that his administration would implement the Jangali report in January describing it as an exit strategy to the farmer/herders crisis.

The farmer Governor promised to give his maximum support to the ACF to achieve its agenda of developing the Northern Nigeria.

Earlier, the Chairman, Board of Trustees BoT, ACF, Bashir Dallatu who led other National and State Branch officials, said their visit was to familiarise themselves with farmer Governor Umaru as they have done to other Northern State Governors with a view to briefing them on challenges confronting the Northern Region as well as seek for support towards tackling the issues.

He said the present ACF leadership came into office at a very challenging period as the Northern region is faced with various challenges such as insecurity, out of school children among other vices.

The BoT Chairman said, various committees have already been constituted to look into the diverse challenges of the region and sent in their report which would be presented to all the 19 Northern Governors for necessary actions.

He noted the developmental projects being executed by the farmer Governor saying, the ACF is proud of him.

The Deputy BoT Chairman, ACF, Sen. Ibrahim Ida in his remarks, disclosed that a radio station has been set up, to reach out to the people of the Northern Region and by extension Nigeria in general to promote unity and called for the support of the farmer Governor.

He then applauded the Farmer Governor for his remarkable achievements, especially in Agriculture despite the security challenges facing the State.
