FARMER GOVERNOR UMARU BAGO SAYS THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A STATE-OWNED UNIVERSITY OF EDUCATION STANDS.
Niger State Governor, farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago said the dream of having a State-owned University of Education still subsist.
The farmer Governor stated this when he received a delegation from the Alumni Association of the Niger State College of Education led by its National President, Dr. Aminu Yusuf at the Government House, Minna.
He said the issue of space is a concern towards actualising the dream, but that efforts are being made to address the issue.
The farmer Governor congratulated the Institution,the founders, and the Students for the forthcoming 50th anniversary and promised to provide support to ensure its success.
On the request made by the Association for the renaming of the Institution to Umar Sanda Ahmadu College of Education, farmer Governor Umaru Bago said the Council will deliberate on it, adding that other appeal made under the purview of the State government will also be looked into.
The Governor showered encomiums on the first Provost and one of the founding fathers of the institution, Dr. Usman Bokani Ahmed, describing him as an accomplished father who has groomed many people working in diverse fields of endeavour.
Leader of the delegation and National President, Alumni Association of Niger State College of Education, Dr. Aminu Yusuf, said the visit was to appreciate the farmer Governor for his developmental strides in the State, describing him as a man of wisdom,who is also knowledgeable, popular, accepted by the people.
Dr. Yusuf also intimated and invited the farmer Governor to the 50th anniversary of the Niger State College of Education coming up on the 4th and 5th of July 2025, as jointly agreed by the Academic Staff of the College, the Alumni Association and the Management of the College.
He noted that the Institution has established itself as a beacon of academic excellence and community service since its creation
The National President used the forum to request for the renaming of the Institution to Umaru Sanda Ahmadu College of Education, assent to dual mandate bill passed by the Niger State House of Assembly as it has been done at the Federal level, make slots available for Students of the Institution to get sponsorship to read medical related courses among others.
Also speaking, the first Provost and one of the founding fathers of the institution, Dr. Usman Bokani Ahmed,called for a separate site for the College of Education considering the fact that the college is the first tertiary institution in the State.
