Federal Universities of Agriculture, Kabba and Medical Sciences Egbe will get concurrent passage shortly for Presidential Assent – Sen. Karimi

By Fanodun Akintoye Sunday

Senator Sunday Steve Karimi has said the ongoing legislative processes on the proposed Federal Universities of Agriculture in Kabba, Kabba-Bunu local government area and Medical Sciences in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State will soon come to end, stressing that both bills will get concurrent passage in the two chambers shortly for Presidential Assent.

He disclosed this in one of the groups WhatsApp platform designed for feedback from his constituents.

According to him, the Federal University of Agriculture Bill has already passed the second reading in the Senate and the third reading in the House of Representatives.

As such, he emphasized that it is not necessary to continue with the third reading of the bill in the Senate, instead, it is more efficient and expedient to proceed with the bill as passed by the House of Representatives, seeking concurrence in the Senate.

‘This will expedite the process and ensure that the establishment of the Federal University of Agriculture in Kabba is finalized without unnecessary delays.

Senator Karimi explained that if the Senate proceeds with a third reading of its version of the bill, it could result in conflicting versions, which would complicate the process and cause further delays. By aligning the Senate’s actions with the House of Representatives’ passage of the bill, the issue can be resolved more swiftly and effectively.

In addition, Senator Karimi noted that the Bill for the establishment of the Federal University of Medical and Sciences in Egbe is still under consideration for concurrence in the House of Representatives.

He reassured stakeholders that progress is being made on both fronts, and that the legislative process is moving forward as intended, stressing that very shortly the two bill will get the concurrent pass for the president to attend to it.

Senator Karimi remains committed to ensuring the timely establishment of these vital institutions, which will contribute significantly to the development of higher education and healthcare delivery in the zone and Nigeria at large.
