Firm leadership and strategic collaborations transform safety measures in Ijumu under Chairman Haruna’s administration, ushering in a wave of relief and optimism among residents

The Chairman of Ijumu Local Government Area, Alhaji Ibrahim Haruna, has underscored the importance of security through a series of impactful initiatives aimed at combating crime and ensuring the safety of residents. Haruna’s administration has declared a “war on crime,” launched a Security Trust Fund, and forged partnerships with state authorities to enhance security measures in the area.

One key move by Haruna’s administration was the intensification of efforts to combat criminal activities by collaborating with the Nigerian Police Force, the military, and local vigilante groups. This collaboration has already yielded results, with several criminals being apprehended and brought to justice.

In a bid to provide sustainable financing for security operations, Haruna signed into law the creation of an Ijumu Security Trust Fund in August 2025. The fund aims to support local security agencies with training and logistics, ensuring that they have the resources needed to effectively carry out their duties.

The focus on border security has also been a priority for the administration, with Haruna providing vehicles and motorcycles to security personnel patrolling the Akunu-Ayere-Kabba highway. This move has helped to improve surveillance and response times along the state border, further bolstering security in the area.

In addition, Haruna has worked closely with Kogi State Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo to enforce security strategies, including the recent closure of the Iyara Zango cattle market. The decision to shut down the market was made in response to intelligence reports indicating that criminal elements were using it for illegal activities.

Alhaji Ibrahim Haruna has attributed the successes in security to the support of governor Usman Ododo and the proactiveness of the state security adviser, Comdr. Jerry Omodara who has been relentless in his activities to ensure a safe Kogi State and Ijumu communities in particular.

Today, the people of Ijumu have seen a marked improvement in their safety and security thanks to the proactive measures taken by Chairman Haruna. Families feel more secure, businesses operate with greater confidence, and the general mood in the local government area is one of relief and optimism.

Through his dedicated efforts, Haruna has not only strengthened security but also fostered a sense of unity and cooperation among residents and security agencies.
