Flood: Kogi State Government Flagsoff Distribution of Relief Materials to Flood Affected LGAs.
The Kogi State Government has officially flagged off the distribution of relief materials to the nine Local Government Areas affected by flooding and four others that suffered severe flash flooding.
The flag off of the relied materials was done by the Kogi State Commissioner For Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams Adeiza, who was accompanied by the State Accountant General Hajia Habibat Onumoko Tijani, alongside the Council Chairman affected by the 2025 flood.
The flag off was held at the Kogi State Warehouse at former Kogi State Hotels premises, saw the distribution of rice, semovita, blankets, mattresses alongside other grains.
Aside the distribution of the relief items to the 14 affected Local Government Areas, the items are also expected to be distributed in the 42 IDP camps opened by the State Government across the affected Local Government Areas.
Speaking at the Flagoff, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams Adeiza, the Kogi State Commissioner For Health disclosed that the measure is aimed at easing and ameliorating the pains of people affected by the flood.
The Commissioner noted that there were jingles, adverts and sensitization through town Hall Meetings and advocacy, lamented that the flood submerged several houses, displacing the residents and leading to the loss of lives and properties.
The Commissioner noted that people affected are faced with welfare and other challenges, however said the proactiveness of Gov Usman Ahmed Ododo, culminated in the distribution of relief materials to help in ameliorating there sufferings.
He noted that the relief items is one of the step the State Government is taking to cushion the effect of the flood, said the items captures welfare, human services and medicals for the affected.
He disclosed that the State has medical camps across the flood affected areas, to take care of the health needs of the people, added that what the State is doing differently from past years is emergency response and preparedness to ensure that the impact of the flood is not so much felt by those affected.
The Commissioner described the effect of the 2025 flood as disastrous and felt by people affected, expressed confidence that with the measures put in place by the State Government, it will go a long way in ameliorating there sufferings.
Also in his remarks, Alhaji Muktar Atimah, the Executive Secretary, Kogi State Emergency Management Agency, said SEMA has taken stocks of more than six trucks of rice with more still expected.
Similarly, the Agency he added has received some truck loads of mattresses and beddings, said in all the 42 IDP camps, arrangements has also been made for medical substations, to take care of the sick and vulnerable, expressed the determination of the State Government to ensure that the items are in real time delivered to the intended beneficiaries.
The Executive Secretary SEMA, expressed gratitude to Gov. Usman Ahmed Ododo, said his proactiveness in the emergency response and preparedness had helped in alleviating the sufferings that would be faced by the citizens owing to the 2025 flood.
Highlights of the Flagoff was the presentation of some items to the concerned Council Chairmen and the inspection of the items already stocked in the warehouse by the State Accountant General and the Commissioner for Health.
