FORMER KOGI ATTORNEY GENERAL FAULTS NATASHA’S SUSPENSION.

As Nigerians from all walks of life, Particularly, those in the legal Profession, both Bar and Bench Continue to lend their voice and opinions over the Suspension of the Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Distinguished Senator, Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan, over an Altercation She had with the Senate President, Senator Godswil Akpabio over the Change of her seat, another Senior Lawyer, a former Kogi State Attorney general and Commissioner for Justice and former Director Prosecution with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, Prince Ben Ikani has also expressed his opinion over the issue.

Speaking to the Media recently in his Abuja Office, Prince Ikani faulted the decision of the Senate to Suspend Senator Natasha, Saying that due Process of the law was not followed, and Completely ignored on the issue, he described the action of the Senator Akpabio led Senate against Natasha as” the peak of legislative recklessness”.

According to the legal luminary, it is wrong legally and morally for an accused to be a judge over his or her own case, stressing that for the Senate President, Goodwill Akpabio to have presided over the case where he is also a party was an aberration, Saying that the Senate President ought to have Step aside to pave way for an independent and unbiased investigation.

Prince Ikani further lamented that, the Nigeria Senate which is the highest lawmaking body in the Country, who ordinarily, should be the Custodian of the Nation’s law and Constitution has become the body caught in blatant violation and disregard of the Constitution,borrowing from the language of Chief Femi Falana, SAN, Prince Ikani said “the Nigeria Senate has lost it glory “.

He Posited that the Senate should have informed Senator Natasha of the Change of her seat, either through a mobile message or Some of the Aids in the red Chambers, pointing out that, what the Akpabio led Senate did was an ambush on Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan, a development that led to the heated argument.

Continuing his swipe on the actions of the Akpabio led Senate, Prince Ikani said there was a procedural error in all that the Senate did , explaining further that they Should have vacated an earlier Court Order which Stopped them from Carrying any action against Senator Natasha, which they failed to do, Stressing that it was only the Nation’s Constitution that is So gargantuan in its application. he fumed.
