Fulani in Ijumu are peaceful, Council Boss Declares

Executive Chairman of Ijumu local government area and the ALGON Chairman in Kogi state, Alhaji Isah Taufiq has described the Fulanis residing in the local government as peaceful hence he will not allow anyone to destroy the good reputation they’ve built overtime, stressing that the administration of Governor Yahaya Bello has done more than enough for them not to misbehave.

He disclosed this while chatting with the Journalists at the sideline of the maiden edition of the Ijumu cultural festival held in Iyara, headquarters of Ijumu yesterday.

According to him, the Fulanis and other communities that reside in Ijumu since he assumed duty as the Chairman of the local government have been peaceful, stressing that the person perpetuating evil among them has been discovered and apprehended.

He noted that the guy in question is used to causing problems with other communities in the area and is presently in the custody of the police. He pointed out that the fracas that happened that led to him being shot by the security personnel was due to his attempt to escape from being arrested.

He urged other communities like, Bassa, Tivs, Ebira, Hausa residents in the area to go about their normal business, and added that he has convened a meeting for Monday where all issues will be discussed and resolved amicably.

He commended the organizers of the Ijumu Cultural Festival for a wonderful outing, stressing that such an initiative happened during his tenure as the Executive Chairman of the local government, and promised to put mechanisms in place for the laudable initiative to continue every year.

He said the event has brought all sons and daughters of Ijumu together to interact and showcase the rich cultural heritage of the area to the world, pointing out that Governor Yahaya Bello is impressed with initiatives that are geared towards promoting peace, unity and development of the area.

He acknowledged the presence of His Royal Majesty, Oba Gbadamosi Mohamed Mufutau, the Olofa of Offa and other Royal fathers who joined to witness the first-ever Ijumu cultural festival, stressing that the current administration under his leadership in the local government and that of the state under Governor Yahaya Bello has changed the security narrative, urging the traditional rulers to be assured that security is guaranteed in Ijumu.

He used the opportunity to call on all electorate to vote en-masse for the APC in the next Saturday’s governorship election in the area, as the party remains the only platform that will guarantee good governance to consolidate on the achievements of the new direction administration in the state. He pointed out that it will be a disservice for the people of the state to vote for another party aside the APC who already has a vibrant and workaholic President in Abuja.
