Gov Abdulrazaq swears in six new Judges

By Bala Salihu Dawakin kudu On Sep 14, 2024

Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara on Friday in Ilorin urged newly-appointed judges of the State High Court to uphold justice and ensure every citizen’s rights were protected.

AbdulRazaq, while speaking during the swearing-in of the six judges, further said their act of taking judicial oath reflects government’s commitment to ensuring access to justice, fairness and rule of law.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the new judges are: Ibijoke Olawoyin; Fatimah Abdulrasaq; Oluwatosin Adeniyi; Yusuf Adebayo; Olalekan Ajayi; and Muritala Folohunsho.

”I congratulate the newly-appointed judges and their families and I also celebrate your hard work and other noble qualities that brought you here.

”Today, you have been entrusted with the immense responsibility of upholding justice and ensuring that the rights of every citizen are protected.

”I am confident that you will discharge your duties with diligence, impartiality, and overriding interest of the community and national security.

”As you take on this noble task, remember that your decisions will shape the lives of individuals and the fabric of our society,” AbdulRazaq said.

The governor assured the judges of government’s continuous support and cooperation to ease their task.

”Our administration has renovated and remodeled several courts within the state.

”Recently, I approved the reconstruction of the former Revenue Court at GRA in Ilorin to serve as courtrooms for more judges, and also create a more befitting environment for the revenue courts in the state.

”It is our desire that this will be followed, all things being equal, with the construction of a new court complex to ensure that the state has befitting courtrooms,” he said.

The governor added that a seamless working relationship between the two arms of government has ensured payments of allowances and entitlements to judicial officers, among other things.

He commended the judiciary, legislature and security agencies for the collaborative approach adopted in the development of the state, and for ensuring peaceful co-existence and safety of its people.

The state’s Chief Judge, Justice Abiodun Adebara, in his remarks, said the ceremony was a milestone in the state’s administration of justice.

“This is because it injects ‘new minds, new perspectives, and new energy’ into the state judiciary,” he said.

Adebara commended the governor’s commitment to the rule of law, and expressed confidence that the addition of the new judges would enhance speedy delivery of justice to the people.

Speaking on behalf of the new judges, Olawoyin said they would uphold and give effect to the ideals of justice, fairness and equity while dispensing justice to all and sundry.

She thanked the governor for taking swift action to meet all the requirements set by the National Judicial Council (NJC) regarding their appointment by the State Judicial Service Commission.

“We are aware that when all hopes regarding our appointment was fading, you took swift action by making resources available at this crucial time.

”This enabled the state to meet the many conditions set by the NJC before considering the recommendation by the Kwara’s Judicial Service Commission for our appointment,” Olawoyin said.(NAN)
