GOV SEYI MAKINDE PRESENTS STAFF OF OFFICE TO 46TH ALAAFIN OF OYO, OBA AKEEM ABIMBOLA OWOADE
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has officially presented the Staff of Office and certificate of office to the new “Alaafin of Oyo” Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade, formally confirming him as the 46th “Alaafin of Oyo.”
The brief but significant ceremony took place on Monday, January 13, at the Government House, Agodi, Ibadan, with dignitaries, traditional rulers, government officials, and Oyo indigenes in attendance.
In his remarks, Governor Makinde described the Alaafin-elect as a leader ready to preserve the cultural and historical heritage of the Oyo Kingdom.
He emphasized the significance of the “Alaafin’s” role as more than a traditional leader but as a custodian of the kingdom’s rich history and traditions. Makinde expressed confidence that Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade would lead with wisdom, integrity, and a commitment to unity.
Prince Owoade succeeds the late Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, who ruled the Oyo Kingdom for 50 years. In his acceptance speech, the new “Alaafin” expressed gratitude to the people of Oyo and pledged to prioritize the kingdom’s development and the welfare of its people.
The coronation of Oba Owoade is expected to mark the beginning of a new era, with a focus on cultural preservation, youth development, and economic advancement. As the 46th “Alaafin,” his reign is anticipated to uphold the legacy of the monarchy while embracing modern challenges.
