A member of the Advisory and Peace Building Committee, Chief Hope Erute, has come out strongly in defence of Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, declaring that the governor is doing well in the advancement and the development of Delta state , particularly in the area of addressing challenges confronting oil-producing communities.

High Chief Hope Erute Speaking at Effurun the headquarters of Uvwie LGA condemned what he described as a growing campaign of negative narratives against the administration, warning that those who deliberately circulate unverified or distorted information about the government are not helping Delta State.

According to him, genuine criticism is essential in a democracy, but criticism must be guided by facts, fairness and patriotism rather than political hostility.
He said Governor Oborevwori inherited numerous challenges from previous administrations and should be given credit for confronting difficult issues instead of being condemned whenever his administration takes steps to resolve them.

“Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is doing well. Those carrying negative news and deliberately portraying everything the administration does as failure are enemies of progress.

“Delta State belongs to all of us. Anybody who truly loves this state should be interested in what will move the state forward, not what will bring down the government for political reasons,” Erute said.

Reacting to allegations concerning the funding and management of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Erute urged members of the public to examine the broader picture before reaching conclusions about the governor’s commitment to oil-producing communities.

He maintained that the challenges confronting DESOPADEC did not begin with the Oborevwori administration and therefore should not be presented as though they were created by the present government.

According to him, inherited financial obligations, abandoned projects and other institutional difficulties require deliberate and sustainable solutions.
He noted that the administration’s interventions in inherited obligations demonstrate a willingness to confront problems rather than abandon them.

“The governor did not create all the problems confronting DESOPADEC. He inherited them.
“Instead of allowing inherited problems to continue destroying the confidence of the people, the administration is taking steps to address them.
“We should encourage solutions instead of constantly searching for reasons to condemn the government,” he stated.
‘Criticism Must Not Become Political Propaganda’
Erute stressed that citizens have every right to demand transparency and accountability from government, but warned against presenting allegations as established facts without adequate evidence.

He said questions surrounding DESOPADEC funding should be subjected to constructive dialogue and proper verification rather than sensational headlines capable of inflaming tensions among communities.
“The people have the right to ask questions. Nobody is saying they should not.

“But there is a difference between asking questions and deliberately spreading negative information to create the impression that the governor is doing nothing.
“If there are issues, let the appropriate authorities provide clarification. Let us not destroy the state because of politics,” he said.

Oborevwori’s Development Agenda

The peace-building committee member also highlighted the need for Deltans to support policies and programmes capable of stimulating development, attracting investment and improving infrastructure.

He said the governor’s MORE Agenda should be judged by measurable outcomes and not by politically motivated commentaries.
Erute described Oborevwori as a grassroots politician who understands the concerns of ordinary Deltans, including residents of oil-producing communities.
He argued that the administration’s responsibility is not limited to one constituency but extends to every part of Delta State.

“Governor Oborevwori is the governor of all Deltans. His administration must balance competing needs across the state while paying particular attention to communities that have contributed immensely to the state’s economy.
“That is why responsible stakeholders should engage the government constructively and offer solutions rather than constantly painting the administration in a negative light,” he added.

Call for Peace and Collective Responsibility

Erute appealed to political leaders, traditional rulers, youth organisations, community leaders and civil society groups to place the interest of Delta State above partisan considerations.
He warned that persistent negative campaigns could create unnecessary tension and undermine investor confidence at a time when the state needs unity and stability to attract development.

“Peace is a prerequisite for development. We cannot continue to pull ourselves down and expect investors to come.
“Those who love Delta should support anything that promotes development and speak up constructively whenever they see something that needs correction,” he said.

He therefore urged Deltans to give the Oborevwori administration the opportunity to deliver on its promises while continuing to hold the government accountable through legitimate and evidence-based channels.

‘Let Us Build Delta Together’

Erute concluded that the success of Delta State should not be seen as the exclusive responsibility of Governor Oborevwori but as a collective obligation of all citizens and stakeholders.
He maintained that while government must be accountable, citizens also have a responsibility to promote peace, truth and constructive engagement.

“Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is doing well. We should not discourage him.
“Let us criticise when necessary, but let the criticism be constructive. Let us expose wrongdoing when we have evidence, but let us not manufacture negativity.

“Delta State needs development, peace and unity. Those are the things we should all be fighting for, not fabricated black market lies” Chief Hope Erute declared.
