Graduands Urged to Embrace Creativity, Integrity as Adeleke University Holds Convocation
KEHINDE AKINPELU ILORIN
Adeleke University held its convocation ceremony for the year over the weekend, with speakers charging graduands to embrace creativity, self-reliance, and moral values instead of chasing scarce white-collar jobs.

The call was made by two prominent figures at the event: Dr. Mrs. Idowu Asogbon, a parent, and Hon. Oladipo Olawale Akerele, a Master’s degree graduand, politician, and Chief Whip of the Osun State House of Assembly.

Addressing the graduands, Hon. Akerele, popularly known as “Water”, urged them to be good ambassadors of both the university and their families as they step into the wider society.

He stressed that the era of depending solely on government or corporate jobs is over, and that graduates must think outside the box to create opportunities for themselves and others.

“We are in a time where creativity will take you farther than certificates alone,” Akerele said. “I want you to go out there and make Adeleke University proud, and also make your homes proud. Be solution providers, not job seekers.”

On her part, Dr. Mrs. Idowu Asogbon, who spoke as a parent representative, advised the new graduates to put God first in all their endeavors and to avoid social vices that are fast eroding societal values.

She specifically warned against involvement in internet fraud, popularly known as “Yahoo-Yahoo,” and other get-rich-quick schemes, describing them as destructive paths with no lasting future.

“My charge to you today is simple: put God first, work hard, and shun shortcuts,” Dr. Asogbon said. “There is dignity in labour. Do not destroy your future chasing what will not last.”

Both speakers commended the management of Adeleke University under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Adedeji Adeleke, for sustaining academic excellence and discipline in the institution.

They called on the university administration to “keep the flag flying” in producing graduates who are academically sound and morally upright.

The duo also offered prayers for the continued growth and progress of the university, saying: “May your shadow never grow less.”

The convocation drew parents, guardians, dignitaries, and well-wishers from across Osun State and beyond, who witnessed graduands receive degrees and postgraduate diplomas across various faculties.

With unemployment remaining a major challenge for Nigerian graduates, the message of entrepreneurship and character resonated strongly at this year’s ceremony, as Adeleke University reaffirmed its commitment to producing graduates ready for the demands of the 21st century.
