In the early hours of Sunday, chaos descended upon Garo town in Kabo Local Government Area of Kano State as suspected kidnappers stormed the residence of a prominent businessman, Alhaji Auwal, at Garo Sabuwar Unguwa. The attackers, numbering about 10, abducted the eldest daughter of the family, Zainab, after extorting ₦8 million in cash.
The horrifying incident occurred around 1:20 a.m. A credible source disclosed to SolaceBase that the assailants, three of whom were armed with guns while the others wielded sharp weapons, forced their way into the family home by breaking a small door.
“They rounded up the entire family in one place,” the source recounted, adding that the attackers created a terrifying atmosphere as they made their demands. The head of the family, Alhaji Auwal, pleaded with the intruders to spare his loved ones, offering to comply fully with their demands.
Despite his cooperation, handing over ₦8 million in cash, the gunmen took Zainab, a secondary school graduate, with them. The family has been plunged into distress as the kidnappers have not yet contacted them since fleeing with the young lady.
The attack has left the entire Garo community in fear and disarray. Residents, already grappling with rising insecurity, have called on the authorities to act decisively to protect lives and property.
The Kano Police Command Spokesman, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the incident, stating that an investigation is underway to track down the perpetrators and secure the release of the victim.
As the family and community await news of Zainab’s safety, the incident highlights the urgent need for heightened security measures to address the rising cases of abduction and violent crimes in the region.
