HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO PRINCE OLUSOLA AKANMODE: CELEBRATING A RARE BUREAUCRAT AND COMMUNITY-MINDED PATRIOT
Today, we celebrate a man whose name is synonymous with quiet excellence, unwavering integrity, and decades of selfless service to Nigeria — Prince Olusola Akanmode, former Deputy Chief of Staff in the Presidency.
Born on August 18, 1950, into the Akanmode royal family of Aiyetoro-Gbedde, Prince Akanmode went on to distinguish himself through a long-serving, fulfilled and inspiring career in the public service. His academic journey, from excelling at the Cambridge-moderated Higher School Certificate to studying French at the University of Ibadan between 1970 and 1974 — laid the foundation for a life devoted to nation-building. Rather than pursue academia, he chose the civil service, joining the Old Kwara State civil service in 1975, a path he never looked back from.
His finest hour came on the national stage as Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, deployed to the Office of the Vice President under both President Olusegun Obasanjo and Vice President Atiku Abubakar — a delicate and demanding assignment he navigated with remarkable skill. As Secretary to the Kogi State Government, he played a pivotal role in formulating and implementing the policies that guided the state through its formative years, earning recognition as a consummate administrator and patriot whose contributions to state and national development remain indelible.
Beyond the corridors of power, it is his enduring impact on his people that truly defines his legacy. His influence on Okun land stands as a lasting testament to human and community development, spreading hope, fostering growth, and inspiring others to follow in his footsteps. Fondly remembered as a mentor and guide, he remains a revered figure cherished for his compassion, wisdom, and deep understanding of the needs of his people. [:: Kogi Reports
Even Nigeria’s highest office has taken note — President Muhammadu Buhari once described him as a man who brought his wealth of experience, maturity and wisdom to serve in the Presidency, leaving behind a legacy of integrity and kindness.
As Prince Olusola Akanmode marks another year, we celebrate not just a distinguished technocrat, but a bridge-builder, mentor, and philanthropist whose life continues to touch countless others.
Happy Birthday, Prince Olusola Akanmode. May your legacy of service continue to inspire generations to come.
